According to a news story I heard, it's due to the competition from smart phones, which do the same thing and so much more in a smaller package. Personally, I also think it's because they're cr*p. Ours started locking up about 6 months after we bought it, as did my brother's. The case is cheap plastic. For the same price, might as well get an iPod touch with camera or iPhone, or any smart phone.
Yes, I read the story the day after DD's play performance. It was so handy and picked up everything without being in people's way. I love my flip. It was $99 I think and there are no data fees like there are for phones.
The company who bought them mismanaged the flip department and they are closing it down because they didn't know what else to do. I wish they had just sole it to another company.
