Clicky Poll: How Old to Dye Easter Eggs?

I like the idea... and somehow they managed to do it at DD's preschool... but I just cannot fathom how this would work.

I picture a huge mess, dye everywhere, and... much, much more frightening... at least one huge tantrum and / or breakdown, probably over a broken eggshell or two.

I can handle a mess, but I don't want a beloved tradition to end in misery... for both of us.

So... how old?[Poll]

  • what mess? LOL!!!! We put the egg inside the whisk for her. She spilled everything and got all the kitchen towels out  but it was fun. She was 13 months.

  • We did it last year for the first time with DS when he was 2.  It was a huge hit!  My uncle made us a neat little table out of plywood that he cut holes in for the egg dying cups to sit in so they wouldn't spill over.  And we did it outside on the front porch.  I say go for it.  It was so much fun!

  • I voted for plastic for now since no one in our household eats hard boiled eggs. When I was a kid, I don't remember doing it before 3-4.
