Three Year Old's Birthday Party?

We really want to keep our kid's birthday party low cost. Is it tacky to hold the 3rd birthday at a park around 2pm, let the kids play, have popsicles, drinks and cupcakes?

I guess just about every party we have been to has involved feeding everyone. We have done that the past two years and I am ready to break free from the mold. Just wondering. If you have ideas, let me know.

  • I always think you can do what you want. I would probably add in a couple of light appetizers (cheese and crackers, chips and salsa, fruit) if you felt you wanted to add a little more, without breaking the bank.

  • I don't see anything wrong with this. I agree with the PP that maybe a little something for the adults to eat while watching the kids is a good idea (ie chips, veggie tray, fruit or something similar). It only has to be one item, just something to graze on.

  • I think just serving cake at a party is 100% fine.  And I love the park idea as long as you have a rain plan.  I personally would not do a 3 year olds party at 2pm but that is because my kids nap between 1-3.
