I did not have a cervical exam when I had my scan. It was just a really long u/s appointment with lots and lots of AMAZING photos of my l/o!!!! But just cuz I didn't have one doesn't mean you won't. the only time my dr. did anything down there was at my first appointment when I had to get a pap done. I keep wondering when he's going to start doing more with that area of my body, but so far all my appointments have been a bunch of heart beat appointments and that's it.

I have had a short cervix since 6 weeks. They do measure it at the anatomy scan, but they check it by the regular, outside the belly ultrasound wand. Your bladder must be full for them to get a good measurement on it though!
My anatomy scan they didn't use an internal US. They just measured my cervix using the regular ultrasound equipment.
This..if they cant measure it with the regular u/s wand they use they will go internal..I had to have that last time. Turns out I had short cervix and was put on bedrest..
The way I understand it, they will check during a regular external u/s to see if the cervix is closed, but in order to get the length checked, it should be internal.
Most people don't get cervical length checked though unless you have a history or risk of preterm labor.
No they don't measure it typically in an anatomy scan, but they will take a peek at it, I suppose just to make sure there isn't anything funny going on. But no, nothing is really seen.
If they really want to check it and be sure, they do an internal u/s with an empty bladder. A full bladder can actually make it appear elongated. I requested that they check mine at my anatomy scan, so they've been checking it. I was having some issues that made it a concern. I don't think it's normally a concern in most pregnancies though, which is likely why you're seeing people say they just check it abdominally. They also can't always see it abdominally (they can't see mine that way).

Squeaker born 7/30.
My Dr. ordered a transvaginal ultrasound to meausre my cervix, but I declined. (I have a history with these internal ultrasounds and I hate them) So, the ultrasound tech just measured mine with the "regular" ultrasound.
Except for the first appt with the pap and everything, my doctor didn't check my cervix until I went into labor with DS (and he was 10 days late). He said it doesn't really make any difference if you are slightly dilated or not toward the end, because it doesn't predict labor. Also, there is no reason to check it at this early point, unless you are having problems.

This is what they did with me as well.
