Babies on the Brain

Darn indigestion...

For quite a bit of this pregnancy I've had heartburn, which I've been pretty successful in fighting with papaya extract, but over the last couple of weeks it seemed I had been getting a bit of a reprieve.

Then tonight I wake up after about an hour and a half of sleep with a horrible combination of heartburn and indigestion and I basically woke up wimpering. Guess my stomach is telling me I shouldn't have had those leftovers, even though they gave me no problems the night before.  It just seems like eating has been more of a chore in general, lately, sigh.

Now trying to get myself back into a condition where I can comfortably go to sleep... gotta be up again in less than five hours... ugh.  Sorry for the whining...

  • Try ginger ale, ginger hard candies, or black licorice (make sure its made with licorice extract, and not just flavor)

  • That was the worst symptom of my pregnancy.  I would wake up choking on stomach acid.  I wish I could say something helped me, but nothing did.  I hope you find something that works for you!
  • While not effective for nausea I've had Sprite and Coke both help with indigestion, also sucking on pepper-mint leaves, chewing cinnamon gum (it seems contrary but cinnamon gum was amazing with heartburn).

I hope you find some relieve hun.

I have totally noticed the heartburn relief from chewing cinnamon gum -- I happened to get some recently and realized it seemed to be having a positive effect.  Too bad I didn't think of it last night to see if it helped with the indigestion piece, too.

I'll have to see about the Sprite/Coke -- sodas have tended to give me heartburn and my midwife said to avoid them to help keep heartburn at bay, but maybe now that I'm further along that will change Smile

I made do with some papaya and tums last night and at least went back to sleep, I'll have to see how things go these next few weeks.  Thanks to everyone else for the suggestions, too!!
