Ok, so a question that I'm sure has already been asked, but I didn't see anything. So I want to try baby wearing but I'm not sure which product to choose. I am 5'9 and a bit top heavy (DD before pregnancy) I am wanting something that will last for a long time. I also don't like the looks of a big carrier. So, I am considering the maya wrap, but I'm not 100% sure. Does anyone have any recommendations? TIA
Re: Baby sling/ carrier question
I have three that I use regularly for different uses, but I love them all.
- Sleepy Wrap (I tried the Moby Wrap as well, but prefer the Sleepy Wrap and now own two of them so one is always clean and ready to use) - good for long wear and balanced carry in a few different positions
- Hava Sling - good for quick on/off and short term carry (though I've been known to use it all day) in a few different positions
- Ergo - good for long wear in a very secure hold; facing mom only.
I have nursed in all three of these, though I find it easiest in the wrap and the sling. I have done hands-free nursing in all three, but the Ergo may have been the simplest for that.
Have you looked into a woven wrap instead? This one doesn't seem as versatile or as sturdy as a woven. You have to learn how to wrap with one but once you get the hang of it you can use them with a lot of different types of carries and you can use them from infancy until toddlerhood.
They aren't that much more expensive than a maya wrap and will last you longer.
I have 3 wovens, an Ergo and a Moby and I am much more excited to use my wovens than the other types.

Can you link to a "woven"? I'm lost when it comes to wraps but would love something light weight to carry LO during the hot summer months when she's due.
Yes, can you please post a link? :-)

I think wraps are best for newborns and then you can move to something more structured when they get older. I really liked the Moby and thought it was very easy to use. I wore it to many sporting events and for a lot of airline travel and DS and I were very comfortable using it for hours at a time. Wovens are another popular option like pp said.
For a structured carrier, both Ergo and Beco are great. Try to avoid Baby Bjorn as most of them are bad for you and baby. I switched to an Ergo Sport when DS hit 20 pounds, and it works great for us.med-free birth x2, breastfeeding, baby wearing SAHM
