POLL: When you were TTC...

Just curious, a little nosy and a lot bored right now so here's a little poll.  Feel free to elaborate.  When you were TTC, what actions did you take to ensure that it was the "right time" to make a baby?

Re: POLL: When you were TTC...

  • We aren't actively TTC until next month but I went ahead and voted.  I keep track of my cycles (which are pretty regular) on a calendar but that's it.  I don't feel like I have regular enough sleep to do temps.

  • i'm lazy. i bought a cbefm and just peed on the stick when it told me to.

otherwise we just baby danced whenever, but there was more when the monitor said to.

  • I wasn't disciplined enough to temp and chart.  Dr. S does "fertility monitoring" which is where you go in on CD3 and then again on CD12-ish to look at your follies and then they tell you which days to do the deed.  I always got pregnant pretty quickly.  It was keeping them that was the problem.
  • I went way overboard and charted, mucinex from day 1 and used the CBEFM on month 2. My CM wasn't ever anything I could track.

I became that psyco woman who checked fertility friend 5x a day in hopes it would change. I even made DH cancel a work trip on our second month of trying because it wasn't during a good time only to get sick.

  • The first time around we just had a lot of sex in the beginning, but after a couple of months I started charting, temping, etc.

The second time around we were all, "we can totally afford it! Let's have sex to celebrate!" and whatdoyouknow, here we are, 5 weeks out from Dos.

I have a feeling I'll do this.  Well, I don't even know if I'll use a cbefm.  If we don't conceive within a few months, I'll probably do more.  But I do remember in high school I had every obvious sign of ovulation.  I remember that pretty vividly, (TMI) egg white/mucous on my underwear scared me to death until I figured out what it was.

  • For #2 we are charting and recording cm--through ffo.  For #1 we just went for it.

  • I voted for "the whole shebang" because that's what we did for the first eight cycles. After that, we started doing treatments with the RE, so I was doing all that plus being monitored and triggered.

Um, this is me.  I check FF CONSTANTLY, just in case it says something new (which of course it wouldn't)!  And I was sick all weekend but we FWP anyway because I got a +OPK and was determined not to miss out on this cycle!

What I'm doing now: charting temps/CM/symptoms, OPK strips twice a day starting CD13 until I get a positve AND a temp rise, drinking POM juice until I get a confirmed ovulation temp rise, testing with HPTs early and often... will probably start 8dpo this time instead of 5dpo like last cycle Embarrassed).

What I'll do next cycle if this doesn't work:  all of the above plus maybe taking some B6, trying to eat even healthier, touring singapore every other day from CD 13 until I get a +OPK then every day until a temp rise (ha! if DH can keep up, that is!  No pun intended, seriously), taking mucinex or 'tussin or similar.  Basically if I do all this and we're not KTFU by the end of the summer then I want to be able to march down to my doctor's office with my charts in hand and say that we did everything we could on our own.

  • We just had sex every other day for the entire cycle (minus AF) :-)
  • I temped and charted CM to start, and 2 months before my last pregnancy I started using a fertility monitor, which I now cannot live without.  It was spot on for me the cycles I used it, and I think now I'm just going to use that and not temp.  I'll still use FF to chart it and chart CM.
  • Temped, charted, used CBEFM, took all kinds of vitamins/supplements, tried preseed, tried preconcieve, used OPKs, FWP every other day, had a surgery to clean out the endo....and gave up around cycle 16 or 17.  Took another calendar year after giving up before something happened.

  • Some of you are exhausting me...and I'm so sorry some of you are having/had a hard time with TTC.

    Seriously sounds exhausting.

  • I charted my temp but my CM was REALLY obvious the month we conceived so I may be a little more lax this time around and just watch CM.  (I hope that's not TMI.)

This is a dumb question - what does Mucinex do re: TTC?

Mucinex thins out mucous for allergy/sinus issues.  Well, it thins ALL mucous.  So cervical mucous also becomes thinner which can help the sperm move along easier.

  • I answered something else ...

I just tracked my CM and watched the calander. We'd been charting for two and a half years and didn't need to temp anymore because I was so regular. After that much time, I could tell by my CM when I was ovulating within a day or two, but I also kept an eye on the calander (aka Fertility Friend) so I'd know when to start watching CM.
