s/o stroller decision...

How did you decide on ANYTHING when expecting? I know the common answer is going to be 'research' but wow....how do I choose a pack-n-play/diapers/pacifiers/bottles when there are over 20 different varieties?

My friend helped with the bottle decision but that's all I got so far....

  • Take your time! At 12 weeks I was also sooo overwhelmed.

Start with Baby Bargains. It helped A LOT. Then Consumer Reports (.org). Oh and Baby Cheapskate!

With Baby Bargains, you can skip around chapter to chapter, based on what you're researching at the time. Same thing with Consumer Reports - you can look up just what you're learning about at the time.

I'm one of the dorks that made a spreadsheet and it helped so much. I went back and forth on so many things my entire pregnancy. You have plenty of time, even if when it doesn't feel like it. I went into labor (2 days before my due date) not knowing anything about diapers. I knew there was a size called "newborn" and that was it!!

Start with carseats ... you have to have one from day one, and it's a good place to start.

And of course .... ask us! Smile

Yep!! I ripped off another nestie's. I'd send you mine, but my computer is in the hospital right now (i.e. in pieces on my desk). Anyways, I used it to list everything I needed, different brands and colors of those things, and what the various prices were (Walmart vs Amazon vs Buy Buy Baby, etc).

  • Diapers/pacifiers are a very personal preference. It just depends on what you or your baby likes. I tried Pampers and Huggies. I preferred Huggies and Kirklands(Costco) best. With Abby I used OrthoNuk but Emily hated them and would only take the blue green "hospital" pacifier.

I mostly chose one trusted friend or two and went with their advice. And looked at Amazon.com reviews. I ignored the advice of anyone who typed in all caps ;) But for example, I read up a bunch on the Eddie Bauer basinett and it seemed to have way too many issues that would be bothersome to me too.

  • I swear I'm the only person that has yet to crack open my Baby Bargain book! I mainly used this site, lucieslist, research in the store and friend's advice.
