No experience here with either yet....but we registered for the Diaper Dekor. I must have read dozens of reviews on each and it seems like both of them have people that love them or hate them, so it was a draw. I liked the Dekor because you can customize the bag size (say you want to take it out to the trash before it's full), so there isn't any waste, so that's the only thing that pushed it over the edge for me. I plan on taking it out sooner than when it's full, to pre-empt any stinky smells.
We picked the Genie Elite over the Dekor because we'd heard more about the Genie and DH looked at the cost of the refills and the Genie's were a better value (I think). But I have no personal experience with either yet!

Sorry, but I am another person who has not personally used either. But, I have had many family members who have had kids/grandkids and have attempted to use diaper disposal items say that they are all a waste of money. They talked me into just using a trash can with a foot opener and scented trash bags!

This exactly. I received a diaper genie ( I did not register for it) and my sister told me to exchange it for something else as soon as I got the chance. She said she got one and it was the biggest pain in the butt. She said she never ended up using it. She said it just made more sense to take the diapers to the trash in the garage right away rather than stock piling them in little tootsie roll type bags.

We went with the Diaper Dekor, but have not put it to use yet. We went with it because you can use regular trash bags in it if you want and after baby we can still use it as a trash can....

We registered for the Diaper Dekor. I read reviews for both, and both are mixed, but a friend used the Dekor and said that she liked how you could use regular bags, rather than that $$ refills. I'm not sure if you can do that with the diaper genie or not.
No experience with either and know no one with any experience with the Diaper Dekor. However, everyone I've talked to that used the Diaper Genie original was "Eh" about it, but I've talked to 2 recent moms who have the Diaper Genie Elite and love it.
I have the Genie Elite and it was great. Hardly any smell at all until DS was a lot older (like 13-14 months old) and his poops got seriously stinky, so we stopped using it and started putting the poopy diapers in the trash bin outside. but for the first year it was very convenient and worked well. I would still recommend taking the diapers out every day or other day to keep smells at bay.
I don't know about the Dekor since I've never personally used it.
I was more than willing to just do a trashcan but DH had a friend who really pushed for the genie, we picked the elite because of the foot pedal. We haven't used it yet but I know from registry stalking that we will be recieving it our shower this weekend.
I was dead set on registering for the Genie but when push came to shove and I looked at the refills I decided to go for the Dekor instead. I like that we can use refills or regular trash bags.
