Talking to my RE about IUI

We are on our third round of Clomid + TI and if I don't get pregnant this month then we will be moving to IUI when we get home from our vacation in June.

What are some questions that I need to ask my RE at my appointment tomorrow?

I know to ask if IUI will increase our chances and if we should change our meds, add a trigger, etc.  Any other things you can think of?

I gave you life, then you gave me mine.

Re: Talking to my RE about IUI

  • I'd ask if the RE recommends doing b2b IUIs or just one.  Some believe that doing b2b offers no more as far as success rates go compared to just a single IUI.  However, some believe it is helpful to do b2b IUIs.

Good one...you may also want to add whether your RE has any post-IUI restrictions or recommendations that are different from a Clomid cycle.

  • I did my TI cycles through a research study, so with my current RE we added back the metformin, plus the trigger, plus the IUI, in addition to the Clomid.

We're doing 3 total cycles this way (met+clomid+trigger+IUI).

I respond well to Clomid and it doesn't thin my lining or dry up my CM. I consider myself lucky though.

Since we got a BFN on the first one, I asked about b2b IUI's, but she said that the success rate for us would be the same (we are not MFI), but that we should have sex that night/the next day.

  • The big things for me were success rates, how many she'd recommend doing before moving on to IVF, timing, monitoring, and cancellation.

    Good luck!
