REALLY dumb question

Are you supposed to wear a bra under a nursing tank or just the nursing tank?

Re: REALLY dumb question

  • I think just the tank--assuming your at home or somewhere private.

If you do decide to also wear a bra, I'd make it a nursing bra. :)

  • I don't think that's dumb at all... I wouldn't wear a bra under a nursing tank around my house BUT if you have super nipples like mine that stick out through all kinds of padding, there is no way you'd be able to go out in public without multiple layers to hide them :)  I think ultimately it depends on how much support/coverage you need.

    Agreed.

  • I have a few that I wear now becuase they are comfortable. If I'm home I don't wear a bra with it. If I'm headed out in public I put a bra  on with it....especially if it's a bit chilly out.

  • I'm not sure of the answer - but I know in my case - my tata's are too big now (let alone how big they will prob get after my milk comes in!) that I cannot fathom NOT wearing a bra .... I wear bras all the time with tank tops that have shelf bras already attached.

So I'll probably invest in both after the milk comes in - Im too afraid to buy anything now, because I have NO idea what size I'll need

  • I remember never taking a bra off once my milk came in. Otherwise you will have a hard time sticking a pad on to protect leaks. I even remember sleeping in them and I hated that. But maybe I'm weird?

If you're weird, so am I ... I needed nursing pads overnight or my sheets paid the price.

I tried nursing tanks and gave up on them because they didn't hold the nursing pads in place well enough. I could have used them with nursing bras, but that defeats the purpose of the nursing tank. :-) Plain ol' tee-shirts worked better for me.

    Exactly!

I need next to zero support since my boobs, even at almost 34 weeks pregnant, are practically non-existent.  I would love it if I could just wear a tank!  Seems like a lot of stuff on if you don't need it.

    Thanks for the input ladies!

  • It it's a dumb question, than I'm dumb too because I didn't know the answer!

With the full sling nursing tanks, I don't see how you could wear a bra and still use them for their purpose. Once you pull down the frong part, I guess you could pull the flap down on a nursing bra down underneath the tanktop, but that's getting kind of complicated for something that is supposed to make nursing easier.

The side sling ones would probably make more sense if you're wearing a bra with them since the whole front comes down.

I honestly can't imagine any tanktop that would have enough support for my boobs now, much less after my milk comes in. I'm thinking I'm definitely going to have to wear a bra. I really like the Undercover Mama nursing tanks that just clip to a nursing bra, but they're so dang expensive!

  • I will just wear the tank alone in the hospital and when I'm at home. I'll probably throw a bra on if I'm leaving the house though.

Yep - I agree with all of this too. I know some women swear by nursing tanks, but they were never that comfortable for me. And I DEFINITELY wore nursing pads at night with sleep bras. During the day I occasionally wore nursing tanks at home if I wasn't going anywhere, but generally just wore a nursing bra and shirt. I like wearing camis with stretchy straps over nursing bras and under regular shirts. Pull the shirt up, the tank down, undo the nursing bra clasp and you're ready to go... and no stomach is cold/exposed. Also, I'm tiny, even while nursing, so it's not like I need the boob support from bras, I just found the tanks to be really weird-fitting.
