For those of you that started cereal a little early (we started around 4 mo...per Dr.) when do you plan on stopping cereal or have you already? If so what is your babies schedule now, what does he/she eat through out the day and at each feeding and how many liquid feedings and solids?
Re: Cereal Question...when to stop?
DS actually never got cereal. Is your baby FF or BF? I know if they're formula fed, they get all the iron they need from the formula, however if they're breastfed, they need more iron from solids. Cereal is a good source of iron.
He gets 28oz formula per day, and 2 solid feedings. Yogurt for breakfast, and fruits veggies, meats, etc. for dinner. I will add in a 3rd meal in a couple weeks.
DD gets constipated from cereal twice a day, so we now give her 3 solid meals a day, but only one of them has a cereal with it (oatmeal, rice, or barley). She drinks breast milk only, so we still give it to her for the iron, and she also has a baby vitamin with flouride mixed in her food once a day. Our food schedule looks something like this:
6:30am wake and nurse
7:15am fruit and cereal (and vitamin)
10:30am wake from nap and nurse
11:30 veggies
3:00pm wake from nap and nurse
4:00pm fruit
5:00pm nurse
6:30pm bedtime baba of BM with daddy (3-4 ounces)
I'm currently weaning from nighttime feedings, so she gets dreamfed at 10pm and 2am. HTH!
I am following pedi's recommendation - which was fruit or veggie plus cereal at each solid feeding. DD gets 3 tablespoons oatmeal plus 2 oz or so of fruit for 1 feeding and then 3 tablespoons rice ceral plus 2 oz or so veggie for other feeding. At 6 month appt, Pedi said to move up to 4 tablespoons and then after that add third feeding per day. I don't anticipate dropping the cereal anytime soon - unless pedi says to do so at the 9 month appt. DD likes it and I have not had any constipation issues with it. I use Plum brand and it has probiotics so this may be why.
