Nutramigen vs. Gentlease

Does anyone have thoughts about Nutramigen vs. gentlease?

My LO is on Zantac twice a day, and was switched to Nutramigen about a week ago. It seemed to help for about 3 days and now he is back to arching and then streches his legs and becomes stiff as a board. The doctor doesn't think he has a milk allergy so I am alittle reluctant to try soy. (I don't know why??) We use gas drops pretty regularly and they help. So I am wondering if I should try the gentlease? Especially since the nutramigen is SO EXPENSIVE!

Any advice is appreciated! Thanks

Re: Nutramigen vs. Gentlease

  • Nutramagin is for milk protein issues - its predigested and is basically dairy free.  Gentlease is more for gas issues.  We did the opposite  - gentlease first then Alimentum (basically the same, just similac's version) when it didn't help.  But we were then diagnosed with an allergy.  I'm wondering if you need a stronger reflux medicine? prevacid etc. or a higher dose of zantac.  My guy has reflux as well and is on both zantac and prevacid now.

If you had an allergy you would know by diahrea, rashes, blood in poop etc.  the arching etc. sounds more like reflux.
