Is this normal or colic?

DD is 2 weeks old and she cries or fusses pretty much every time she is not asleep or eating.  There is nothing much we can do to comfort her either besides feed her again.  Occasionally she will stop fussing and fall asleep if we give her a pacifier, but usually it just makes her scream more.  There are rarely moments when she is just awake and content.  My husband thinks she cries more than most babies and at first I didnt think so, but now I am starting to think he may be right.  Are/were your newborns like this too or do we have an exceptionally fussy baby???

That sounds exactly like my DS.  He only has very rare moments when he is awake and content and not crying.  We just switched his formula to sensitive to see if that helps at all, other than that we don't know what else to do either.  He literally naps, wakes up to eat, cries when he's done eating...so we swaddle, rock etc to get him calm and he ends up going back to sleep.  So obviously I don't have any advice, I just wanted to let you know I feel your pain!

Colic is normally at a set time, normally evening.  My daughter has a mild case of colic and she is fussy and cries from about 6pm to 11pm.   She however calms right down at 11pm and goes to sleep contently.  She is a happy baby for the rest of the time.

Colic is technically defined as crying for more than 3 hours a day, for at least 3 times a week, for more than 3 weeks. That being said, we thought Liam had colic at that age too because he seemed to cry more than 3 hours a day. We talked to the pediatrician and he said it could be because Liam would settle down if we held him, but would cry if we set him down. It did clear up within a couple days so I don't think it was colic. There is a growth spurt around 2 weeks so it could be that too. It was kinda hell until about 3 weeks, but then things got a lot better.

it's probably reflux and if it is your dr can put them on Zantac or Prevacid and it helps some kids.

Not sure if its colic, but DS will be 7 weeks tomorrow and he's super fussy too. Really can't sit there and be content. He's more fussy between 7-11pm, but he's almost always a crab unless he's sleeping or being fed : ( I pray he grows out of this soon! Good luck to you!

also dealing with similar behaviors on this end....so frustrating to watch him go through this!  pedi said it may be allergies to dairy.  we decided to switch from a breast/formula combo to just sensitive formula as i had a difficult time eliminating all milk from my diet.  We have been using it for 5 days and we are still getting some crying but not all awake time like we were.  we just want him to feel better....anyone else switching food?  they may put us on a soy based formula if this doesn't help him poor thing

our fussy time is more like screaming uncontrollably and he is completely inconsolable,  he looks and sounds like he is in pain.  that is colic.  I have both eliminated dairy and started him on zantac.  both seem to be helping.  nothing settles him quite like popping him on the boob though.  probably not creating great long term habits but if it soothes and calms my three week old baby out of his hysterics, i will do it,
