Anyone have any experience at methodist hospital med center

I wanted to see if anyone had any experience giving birth at Methodist Hospital in the med center.  I am due Sept 6 and that is where my doctor delivers so I was just curious if anyone had any personal experience there.

Re: Anyone have any experience at methodist hospital med center

  • I have delivered there twice.  The first time my postpartum care wasn't bad, but it wasn't great, but that was 3.5 years ago.  I delivered there last July and I cannot express how wonderful my care was.  My L&D nurses were great, but my first postpartum nurse was beyond awesome.  I credit my nurses with my very speedy recovery.

I had a great experience and if we have a third I'll have a hard time choosing the new Texas Children's facility over Methodist because I know what to expect and know I'll have a great experience.

  • I delivered at Methodist a little over a year ago and had a great experience from start to finish. My L&D nurse was a bit annoying (too talkative for me) but I didn't care because I had one of my best friends in there with me who had her PhD and teaches L&D nurses. She wasn't bad, just a talker and I didn't care to chat it up with her when I was in labor.

Really was top notch. Great nurses and staff our entire stay. And they were so pro-breastfeeding, if that is important to you. I have friends what delivered at other hospitals where the nurses pushed formula on them for the stupidest reasons (i.e. rather than help momma and baby with the latch the nurses said just give the baby formula).

Oh, and the food was yummy. Bonus!

  • Great place. Nurses are very nice, not pushy. Food is yummy.

My only complain is that the kitchen closed before I was cleared up for eating. So after a whole day of fasting and L&D, DH could only find a salad for me to eat.

  • I delivered there in March and had a wonderful experience. Everyone was very nice and I felt that I, and my DD, got top notch care. I used to work at Methodist and watched the staff closely to make sure they did what I knew they were supposed to do (checking my ID, time out before the epidural, little sayings that they are supposed to say, etc.) So, I was probably even more critical than the average patient because my expectations were very high. :)

Like KelleyA, for my next little one, I hope to be at the new Texas Children's facility. It was under construction 3 years ago when I was working in the med center, and I thought SURELY it would be done before we had our first child. Not so much - that building is taking forever! :)

  • Love Methodist! You don't have to change to a postpartum room which I love. They were pro breastfeeding and let me do skin to skin contact right away. It was a good 20 minutes before they weighted by baby. They let us bond. My nurse also made copies of my birth plan to give to the nursery. They were not pushy, but when I needed an epidural, the anethesiologist was there in less than 5 minutes. I had a good birthing experience. However, I thought the food was terrible and hated that my hubby couldn't get a meal and had to leave to go and get food. Very annoying.
