I had never heard of a diaper party. Some friends of our decided to throw one for my husband. They are being so generous, I just can't help but feeling like it's tacky. I'm already having a shower that most of the men who will be at the diaper party wives will be attending. Is this asking to much of our friends and family?

YES

You are not askin to much of friends or family. Like others said its just an excuse for the guys to get out. Its a night for Daddy to hangout with the boys. Have a few beers, playpoker, cards etc. It is very common around here to have a diaper party and a baby shower.
Oh yeah, what's another $10-$20 on top of a $40-$50 shower present? I mean, come on. Don't be stupid, I'm sure they have boat loads of money in a special savings account to be used for buying extra stuff for other people.
To the OP. In some circles, it's tacky, in others, it's not. Odds are, the couple will just make the diapers part of the original shower present and you'll just get it at a separate party. I warn you though, don't be surprised if you get a bunch of cheap generic diapers. Which, of course, are fine---assuming your child isn't sensitive to them or will blow out of them.
He's the single greatest thing I've done in my life and reminds me daily of how fun (and funny) life can be. He's turned out pretty swell for having such a heartless and evil mother.
you return them for the brand you want.
OP I know around here it is very common for the guys to do this and I don't know of anyone having a problem with it.
Now what my DHs best friends did for him was a poker game where the buy in was $10(most gave more) and my DH got all the "prize" money(most of his friends don't have kids so they would know beans about diapers and they could give two sh**s about editquet)
THIS. Somewhat common in our circle. Normally centered around something 'guy' related. Getting the fight, playoff game, driving range etc. If you are having a co-ed shower then skip it but it's a good excuse to let the dad-to-be hang out with friends before LO arrives and get some diapers in the process
