My DD got an invite today for a boy in her class' party...I have no idea if he is expecting a gift or what to get...HELP!!! (I suppose I could ask his mom but that's kinda presumptuous)
Books are always a safe bet -- things like Mo Willems, I Stink, etc.
Matchbox cars are another safe bet -- you can never have too many and they are dirt cheap. You could get 10 of those and the kid would be in hog heaven.
Board game of some sort.
Superhero cape or other dress-up clothes. Boys like that too!
That's all I can think of without knowing the particulars of what the kid liked.
My son has been to about four birthday parties for classmates. Yes, they have to bring a present, they were invited. I stay around $10, because we don't know them that well, and it's just to be nice. I usually go with the theme of the party. If no theme, I just get something gender related.
If your child goes to the party, bring a gift. I actually ahve asked the parents for gift suggestions when I RSVP. I simple ask what things their child is interested in to get some ideas. I have done nerf toys, art toys, a beach blanket, action figures and little cars.
