Re: if you make your own baby food...

  • I just leave it in the fridge overnight.

  • I usually take it out of the freezer and let it thaw on the counter for a little while. I then microwave it in 5-7 second increments and stir well to get rid of hot spots.

I know microwaving isn't "recommended" but I test the food before I give it to him to make sure it's the right temp.

  • Usually I'll pull a couple cubes out, put them in little containers and defrost them in the fridge. I'll mash them a little, since they are usually a little frosty still, then heat them to at least luke warm in my bottle warmer (it's big enough to fit the containers I have). It works out great!
  • Well, really this is week 1 of using the baby food I have just made but I have been trying to remember to take it out of the freezer the night before. Otherwise, I take it out as soon as I remember in the am and if it's still not thawed out enough I have ben defrosting for VERY short amounts of time in the microwave. I hate doing that though, because I worry about lost nutrients and microwave crap...

I have also tried running under warm water in sink or placing in a bowl of hot water (in the container I freezed in still).

  • I microwave. I put her food in her glass bowl and microwave it. 20 sec is more then enough.

  • I put it in the fridge the day before. If I have something that is still frozen, I put the container in hot water and defrost it that way. I then microwave it for 10-20 seconds.
  • thank you, ladies! I have been really wanting to start making our own baby food and was curious about this. For some reason, with all of the reading I have done on the subject, I just couldn't find an answer.

  • I leave it in the fridge over night when I'm thinking that far ahead.  Otherwise- pull out the cubes and microwave 10 seconds at a time, stir, 10 more seconds, etc.  DONT do it all at once or your sweet potatoes will turn into french fries.  (I of course, have never done this...) ;)

  • If I don't put it in the fridge overnight, I microwave it for 40 seconds on 40% power. If it's not quite thawed, I then do 10 second increments, again at 40% power. I stir to evenly distribute the heat, then use my heat-detecting spoons just to make sure it's not too hot.

  • I put the cubes in a small bowl then boil water, pour it in a large bowl then put the smaller bowl into the hot water. Takes no time, sometimes I need to change the water to keep it hot.

  • i microwave it for about 20-30 secs.  If its too hot I put it in the freezer for a few mintues and stir it.
