Kevin had an upper GI today that showed nothing abnormal and no aspirations - so I pushed the NNP to put Kevin on the Similac Alimentum formula (my thinking is that he may have a corn allergy).
They neo just called with another update and said they are not switching him to the Alimentum and basically we're still in a holding pattern while he's refluxing. Argh! Some babies reflux for months!
I get that they are scared due to recently losing a baby who aspirated. I get it and I certainly don't want to endanger Kevin but that other baby didn't survive regardless of being in the NICU. That is a very cold thought but it's the truth.
I finally asked the doctor to tell me what it will look like when Kevin is ready for discharge. The only thing he needs to do is to not projectile vomit for 48 hours. So please keep your fingers crossed for only wet burps.
Re: Pushing to get my LO released
That sounds really frustrating. I hope that the doctors are doing a good job of balancing his needs as far as when he should be in the NICU vs. home. That's hard
I will say Andrew came home with silent reflux, but it got really out of control, and we found him blue a couple times - it was really scary.
