Pea in the Pod/ Motherhood Maternity

I went to a new store that combines both of these stores. It was like day and night with the prices. Pea in the Pod wanted $70 for a materinty shirt. Motherhood maternity was about $25-$30 for pants. I guess Im just super cheap. I might stick to Old Navy.

  • Target actually has some cute, cheap clothes too!

I might check out MM for pants though, ON clothes fit me weird now, I can't imagine how they'll fit when I have a belly.

I'm with you! I don't like spending alot of money on clothes to begin with. I will not be spending tons on materinty clothes that I will only be wearing for a couple months.

  • Some may flame for this, but since I gained weight after m/c and haven't lost it yet, and I know things aren't getting better, I just went to goodwill and spent $50 and got 1 pair of "work pants" (so I now have 2 that fit me) and about 7 tops that can hide the pudge/bloat.  There is a maternity consignment shop about 30 min from here and I am going to check there next.  I just can't justify spending more than I spend on my normal attire for clothes that are for a transient weight gain!
  • I always see maternity clothes in the Target clearance section! That's what I'll be hitting up first for sure :)

  • I have a friend that bought clothes from motherhood maternity and she said those clothes started to fall apart long before her maternity clothes from target did so I will be heading to target.

I don't judge I thank you for the idea and will have to see if there is one near me. Which I think there may be:)

  • I've gotten some good maternity clothes from Once Upon a Child too-- I dont know if every store has a maternity section but its definitely worth looking into since its consignment everything is super cheap! I also would say that Motherhood Maternity is great for jeans ( I couldnt find long length maternity jeans anywhere else without spending an arm and a leg) but their shirts are a rip off. Especially the ones w/ the side ruching. I thought they were super cute and my grandma bought me 1 last time I was pregnant, a week later I saw the exact same style shirts at Target for half the price and it held up just as well. I plan on buying more summer stuff at OUAC, Target and some yard sales/consignment sales.

Why would you get flamed for this? You're a genius and now I just might stop at our Goodwill after work. Thanks for the idea.

  • I am very frugal and wouldn't spend $70 on a regular top! With my dd, I bought most of my maternity clothes from the Gap clearance rack. Got some great quality items that were marked way down, and I loved everything from there. I bet they have all their sweaters/winter clothes on clearance now, so this would be a great time to buy those. I also was surprised to find several decent pairs of jeans (and I have to buy longs) at Ross for only about $10 each.

  • Normally I love clothes shopping, but I can not spend a lot on stuff I know I will only wear for a few months.

The Once Upon A Child near me is great.  They're really picky about only accepting things that are in great shape and current styles, so that will be my go-to store for this pregnancy.  I've already bought a few things Big Smile

  • I found that MM clothes fall apart pretty easily. I got most of my maternity clothes from ON and Gap (online), and a few things from Target. Almost all of them still look great, which is kind of surprising considering how much I wore them.

I'm in Brevard County, on the east coast.  I mostly hang out on TIP & Family Matters on TN, I've never been on a local board there.

Sorry I can't help with a specific store there, but I think it's absolutely worth the time to check them out.  You may want to call ahead though, only certain stores carry maternity clothes.

  • I'm from the Brandon area (well was - we moved to TX recently)

There is a Once upon a Child in Brandon for sure, but I'm 95% sure there are more in Tampa, I'm sure their website will have more info. :)

I know there is also a store called "Lil' Sprouts" (which is basically the same thing, but consignment) I know the girl who owns it, but I'm not sure if they carry maternity clothes.. (if you would like me to ask her I will) They're right across the street from the Brandon OUAC. (Lumsden and Kings Ave)

With DD - I only got MM/Target and ON stuff. but nothing seemed to fit correctly so I always felt frumpy. With this one, since I gave everything away I plan on buying better clothes. Gap and AT loft has a bunch of cute stuff, without spending an arm and a leg (they always have sales too)

I'm also requiring that I buy at least one pair if nice jeans this time around, I had a pair of MM, that I had diaper butt for the entire pregnancy (well the time I wore them) It sucked.

I just remember Pat Patriot and assumed since it said you were from FL that it was that board. It must be from my lurking on other boards.

  • I'm all about Goodwill and consignment stores.  Same things for baby clothes!  You can find tons of stuff that still has tags on it.

  • I bought a couple of pairs of jeans from MM and they are awesome! I bought them online on sale, so they weren't too bad. I also want to point out since I am a bigger size, its hard to find maternity jeans in my size. MM was one of the only places that had my size and higher.

I also bought some really nice sleep bras there (they were pricy). I wouldn't go there for anything else though, as others have said the other stuff is too expensive or some of the shirts fall apart.

I bought my tops and skirts at old navy.

  • I honestly don't intend to buy very many, if any at all maternity clothes new. I'm planning on checking out thrift stores and consignment shops.
