Boring babyproofing question

Thea is finally moving with purpose. Not crawling, but rolling. When she rolls from her stomach to her back, she isn't very graceful, and I constantly hear "thunk...thunk...thunk" from her head.

Here's my babyproofing question...

Our fireplace is brick and the hearth is roughly a half inch higher then the carpet. It's also about 5' wide.

Any suggestions on how to keep her from rolling onto it? Other then the constant picking up and moving her?

Re: Boring babyproofing question

  • This might not work in your situation because our hearth is much higher than yours, but we actually used one of those baby fences and ran it in front of our hearth and wood stove.  We use the wood stove to heat our house so we need a pretty solid barrier to keep Hayden away from it.

  • I was also going to say the gate thing for around it.  Or the table edge bumper things.

  • You could just put some pillows in front of it. Eventually you might want those bumper things you can stick on table edges. Or a pool noodle cut in half?

  • I think BRU sells halved foam pieces with adhesive on the other side. Kinda like the noodle idea Jill mentioned.

We have these for the upper part of the hearth that Hudson can pull up on and fall into .. when he was just rolling though, we put pillow around the base so he wouldn't roll into it :) Not the best looking .. but I just picked them up when he wasn't down there :)
