I'm taking my grandmother grocery shopping at Walmart. That's right, I'm about to leave right now to do it. This is my mom's mom whom I dearly love and am close to but she's almost 84 years old and trekking with her through Walmart and she rolls along in her motorized cart (going approx -2 mph, taking out endcaps and small children) is very trying when I'm NOT pregnant.
This is a little family chore that we pass around and though everyone has been very kind in taking my turns since I got PG, I know that it's my mom's turn this week and she's very stressed and busy so I offered to take it off her hands. I'm trying not to regret that decision now.
Don't get me wrong, I genuinely love my grandmother. But this is truly a task that tests one's patience. She loves to strike up conversations with every stranger, peruse the aisles and comment on the price of everything and the worst part is, she makes me check every single item's expiration date!! (I'm not talking cold stuff, I'm talking the box of cereal she buys every single month.....I've never seen cereal expire in a month have you?)
*Sigh* It's ok though. She's a wonderfully sweet woman with whom I have many cherished memories. AND! If I'm lucky....after I put her groceries away I'll get some cookies that she's had in her cupboard since the Regan administration. YAY!
Happy Friday all! Hope you got a giggle.
Re: Lord give me patience...... (Silly mini-rant)
haha... this made me smile!!
Aw, that's so sweet of your family to do that for your grandma every week!!
Just think, as uncomfortable as you are, at least you can still grocery shop on your own and put away your own groceries. It is probably much more annoying to not have the independence to be able to do so!
Hope your trip goes well. I understand checking expiration dates because I am amazed at how many things I find on grocery store shelves that are expired (including cereal and crackers)- and not by just a few days, by months.
I live a couple hours away from family so I haven't had the pleasure of taking Grandma shopping, but I hear she rearranges all the shelves at Costco. When she gets home she puts stickers on everything with the date she bought it...including toilet paper! That's right, Grandma wants to be sure she doesn't use old toilet paper.

Thanks ladies and I love all your comments about your grandmothers. They really are quirky and fun aren't they? Well I just got back and I'm thoroughly exhausted. I've got my feet up and I'm chowin down on a popsicle.
Grams is happy and totally restocked on all her toilet paper, creme cookies and stouffers cheesy potato bakes. Whatever makes her smile
LOL that is hilarious and cute as hell!
