I wonder why we feel the need to post all the horror?

Honestly, why do we do this? I don't think it prevents future tradgedy. Any thoughts? I'm not flaming posters or responders, I'm just trying to understand the trend of linking and posting all this horrible news. I'm not talking about when a nestie posts a personal crisis - I understand how we can support and pray etc - I'm only wondering about the news clips.
