Remember that thread?  Well, I've maybe found that person's relative - a child at my DS's preschool is named Ariyan.  I had to stop and do a double take when I spied the name on some artwork hanging in the hall.

It's probably because I just read a blog about her son dying and looked at the photos, but I cried when I read this. The poor child! She'll have to overcome that sterotype for the rest of her life.

I bet that this child's parents are just plain idiots. Nobody could knowingly name their kid that unless they're supremacists. *shakes head* Some people shouldn't be allowed to breed...

Early on, DH told me he liked the name Arya (a character in one of his favorite books).  It is TOTALLY NMS, but I tried to look up girl names that sounded similar...& ran into Arianne & it's variations.  Now I know this is a real name & it sounds pretty, but it's just waaaay too close to Aryan for me & made me totally uncomfortable...

I'm thinking/hoping that those people just didn't realize what they were doing.

Could you imagine reading that on a resume? I think employers would shy away from a name like that.... and possible customers too!

I'm guessing (hoping) the child changes his/her name!

Yes it is!    I'm afraid I shot that one down right away just because it was a little too out there for me (sorry DH).  But he went through the rest of the books looking for other contenders.  Daenerys anyone?      

Do you get HBO & are you going to watch the series?  Unfortunately we don't get HBO, so we're going to have to catch it some other way...

I was going to ask if it was a Song of Ice and Fire but got beat to it!

Aria (spelled like the word, not like the book) was our girl name for this baby, but he's a boy! We will use it for sure if we ever have a little girl!

On another note, I had a friend in school growing up, and her name was Arianne, pronounced Aryan. And I never clued in until my DH pointed it out. Fail.
