Talk to me about your crib bedding!

This may sound stupid, but as a FTM, I'm kind of clueless what we need for the crib. So far I have the mattress and 3 sheets. We will also be purchasing a breathable bumper and a teething cover for the top rail.

Is there anything else? Sheet protectors? Mattress protector? How do you layer everything, etc?

  • I used Carter's multi-use pads on baby's crib sheets in his crib, as well as his cradle.

  • Are you using a crib skirt?

We do waterproof mattress pad, then sheet, then sheet protector.

Cole was a reflux baby, so we have several already - they are not a necessity by any means, but it definitely helps cut down on changing the sheet so often especially when you are dealing with reflux and would have needed a new sheet every night!

  • I only use the mattress and sheets.  The mattress has a waterproof cover, so I figured I didn't need anything to protect it further.  My LO doesn't spit-up or leak much, so I haven't had to do any middle of the night sheet changes since he was really little.  I just change the sheets every 5-7 days or so.

We do mattress - mattress pad - sheet - mattress pad - sheet

You could do a protector on top of that, if you have a reflux baby or a hardcore drooler.  The double sheeting came in SO handy when Bean had a blowout every hour stomach virus. The glory of being able to just strip off the top 2 layers instead of having to re-sheet the whole bed & wipe down the mattress at 4am can't be emphasized enough.
