Babies: 6 - 9 Months

Ananke?

Are you around? I know you were having a rough night last night. Did it get any better? Hope tonight goes better, in any case.

Re: Ananke?

  • Hey, I just got on - thanks for thinking of me.  It's a little better, timewise, tonight, but still just as hard for me. I've cried so much the last 2 days, I feel like I've been punched in the face.  I look like it too.  It's super sexy.

I ended up making it all night last night (I usually bring him to bed with me around 3am), and when he woke up at 7:00, I let him nurse back to sleep and we 'napped' until 8:30.  I also took another nap with him today because I was in withdrawals.  I'm hoping to be able to continue doing that without confusing him.  I think I will.

This is last night's log from bedtime until midnight (put down = awake/crying, Awake means I gave him the opportunity to nurse):

    9 pm

    10 pm

    11 pm

And here's tonight's so far - the crying was cut in half for both bedtime and his first waking.  Hopefully it'll continue like that.

  • I'm glad you're already seeing improvement. Hopefully it will get better from here.

I remember the weekend that we did Ferber, and I felt the same way. Honestly, by the third day, he was sleeping better but that's when I was just so depressed. It was from complete exhaustion, as much as anything else. Exhaustion built up over all the sleepless nights that led us to that point, exhaustion from being up so much to check on him, and emotional exhaustion.

But it gets so much better once you both start sleeping well.

I still "cheat" and bring him into bed with me on the weekend mornings after his first feeding. It seems to be okay for Mac as long as it's just for a daytime nap or for a short nap in the morning. I think it's good to still have "cuddle time." You just have to make sure it's not confused with bed time.

  • I just want to say that this is great, I'm glad you're seeing some results. In a week you will be like "why did I wait so long?".

You are a wonderful Momma and you are doing the very best for your boy!

Thanks!  You're so great!  I'd chat ya up a bit, but I'm going to try to hit the sack before midnight for the first time in months.  DS just woke, I fed him and it only took 4 minutes for him to go back to sleep (8 minutes at this waking last night), so hopefully I'll have a decent chunk of time before he wakes again.

I hope I feel like that in a week - right now I'm still feeling pretty guilty, but once I realize our attachment hasn't changed and we're both sleeping better, I think I'll feel better about the whole thing, especially if I can keep our morning snuggles and at least a nap here and there.

Hope you have a lovely evening!
