Baby Bjorn or Ergobaby carrier

Which one do you recommend? There are so many carriers out there that I cannot decide. Which do you like and why? Is the Ergo one bigger so you can use it for a longer period of time?

Re: Baby Bjorn or Ergobaby carrier

  • I got an Ergo Sport off babysteals; I haven't had a chance to use it yet, but it had great reviews and it was a reasonable price.

  • I have both and definitely prefer my Ergo. It's more comfortable for me and my son. Also, I can still carry him on my back even though I'm hugely pregnant and he weighs a ton. My husband used the Bjorn earlier and he liked it, but it was never comfortable for me and our son has definitely outgrown it.

  • From what I understand, the advantage of the Ergo is that it better distributes the baby's weight, so that they are not pressing all their weight into their crotch area.

I have heard good things about both carries, but the Ergo was more highly rec. to me by my mom friends, and I found mine on babysteals as well. I can't wait to use it!

  • Thanks, so my next question is,, is there different models of the Ergo or are they pretty much all the same. I would do so much better if everything can in one choice. I get overwhelmed with all these styles, choices, models, etc. lol

  • We got the Sport because DH is a big guy, and it has longer straps (shoulder and waist) than the regular Ergo.

And because it was on babysteals for half off.

  • Shoot! I just got a Baby Bjorn off my registry, looks like I'll be returning it for an Ergo!
  • if you try to carry a 15 lb. baby or bigger in the baby bjorn you will want to die after about 15 min.  (seriously, it is so much strain on your shoulders) plus, they only work up to a certain height, so the babe will outgrow it really quickly. we got one at a consignment shop when we first had ds, but neither dh nor i could wear it after a month because it super hurts your shoulders.  (plus there are studies that show that the way that it suspends the babe is very bad for hip development).

the ergo on the other hand is weighted to something crazy like 50 lbs. and you can use it easily with an older child too ( i carried our 2 year old in it in the fall and probably will again when i don't have a giant belly).  you can wear it on the front, side, or back and it distributes the weight to your hips instead of your shoulders (like a hiking backpack) so that you don't get shoulder strain.  i would buy an ergo over a bjorn in a second.

  • I've definitely heard better things about the Ergo carriers than the Baby Bjorns.  I actually bought a Boba to use when LO gets bigger, so I went with a totally different route.  :)

  • I just bought my Ergo carrier today, but FYI, you will need an infant insert at first, thats like another $25-$30.

  • I have both.  Without question, the Ergo is way better.
  • We have an Ergo and LOVED it with DS. We just got a Bjorn used at a consignment sale for this one until he's big enough to use the Ergo without the insert.

  • The Bjorn is really bad for the baby's back. It puts too much pressure on the bottom of the spine and doesn't distribute it.

You can't use the Ergo until the baby is a little bigger, but I would recommend a Moby or a gauze wrap for when the baby is smaller instead of the Bjorn.

  • Also keep in mind what time of year you will be using the carrier, like someone else already said you need to get an infant insert for the ergo and if you have your baby in the summer it can get really hot for both you and baby to be in the carrier. I was going to buy an Ergo carrier but since I am having a summer baby went with the BabyBjorn Synergy instead since it has the lighter mesh fabric, better back support then the standard babybjorn and it works for infants then also received a Kelty carrier for when she outgrows the babybjorn.
