Elevating mattress for tummy sleeper?

DD was diagnosed with RSV. Dr said she is wheezing pretty bad and she's obviously stopped up and having a hard time breathing. Everything I've read says to elevate their mattress at times like this, but DD sleeps on her tummy and rolls around all night. Is it worth it and/or effective to elevate her mattress?

  • I've never been able to make the mattress thing work for either of my kids! Yes, it can help but quite often it's a rather impractical suggestion for the "in between" ages.

  • No advice, but just wanted to say that I hope your LO feels better soon.  Poor boo!

We elevated DS's when he was 10ish months by putting a rolled up towel under one end. He would occasionally slide down, but it wasn't a big deal. I would give it a try and just keep an eye on her to make sure her legs don't get stuck. I hope she feels better soon.
  • We used to use thick books under the mattress or we'd make a platform with the books under the legs on one end of the crib.

    Hope LO feels better quickly!

  • DD's mattress has a matress wedge underneath it ... I nurse her before bed and it helps to keep her from spitting up all over herself Wink Anywho, she usually wiggles her way down to the bottom by morning, but she spends most of the night elevated at least.

Would your DD be elevated at all, or do you think she'd wiggle down immidiately? If she'd stay up there at all, it might be worth a shot - at least using books or a towel, something you already have around the house. Elevated is elevated! And I'd think back vs stomach wouldn't matter as far as the elevation, but I wonder if she'd like it?

And I hope she is feeling better ASAP!
