C-section question

I know that this will vary by state, hospital, etc. , but I'm just curious what the policy is at your hospital about who can be in the room during a c-section. I will be discussing this with my doctor on Monday when we schedule my c-section if dd is still transverse. I of course want dh there, but I was hoping I could have my sister there as well. I want her to be able to take pictures (not of the actual c-section) for us and I also think it would be a comfort to have her with me as I want dh to be able to stay with the baby. TIA :)

Re: C-section question

  • At our hospital, one support person is allowed back for a c-section. If mom has to go under general anesthesia, then no one is allowed in.

  • I'm pretty sure it's a hospital policy.  My hospital allows one person with the patient.

  • This might dup post, but oh well. My browser is being a jerk :)

I am only allowed one support person. Which blows, because I would have liked my doula to be there for my DS' birth and for this babies birth as well. She'll wait outside. :(

  • Thank you for your responses. That makes me a little sad, but I know hospitals have their policies for a reason and they don't want too many germs in the room etc.

  • one person and when they did my epi they made DH leave the room. I'm delivering at a different hospital and still haven't gone on the tour yet.
  • We were only allowed DH to go in. It had to be someone who could consent to medical treatment if something needed to be done differently than planned.  This could be different in other states, counties or even each hospital in the same town.  You just have to call your L&D Dept and ask what their policies are.

  • Just one person.  My doula was not allowed in.  I was allowed both my husband and doula in recovery, but my husband mostly went off with the baby.
