I feel sorta bad for my baby.....

Because I'm obessed with ice water, I feel like the poor little guy doesn't get a ton of rest because I'm always drinking it (which makes him move but that isn't why I'm doing it).  I've actually been cutting back and drinking room temp water for his sake.

Anyone else suddenly feel like they NEED ice water all the time?  (I've also been chewing ice for the first time in my life!)

Re: I feel sorta bad for my baby.....

  • I've ALWAYS been obsessed with my water being freezing cold.  I hate drinking water that isn't.

  • Not for ice, but really really cold water.  I feel like I just read somewhere something about chewing ice in pregnancy?

Found it!  It's called Pagophagia.  Look into it, if you feel concerned, you could always ask your doctor.  Sounds like it is pretty common in pregnant women.

Woah that is a bit intense!  I don't think it's a compulsive behavior for me so I'm not too worried.  For me it's just that I like the cold. Scary for those who have that though! I also just had my iron tested and I'm good so I feel safe. :)

  • I've always been a big water drinker/ice chewer as well.
  • Yes, I was just telling MH how amazing ice cold water tastes now that I am pregnant! My LO doesn't seem to notice whether the water is cold or not though.
  • oh and don't cut back! Water is great for baby!
  • I chew on ice cubes all day, it's the only way I can get enough water in!  I also feel like I'm eating something when I'm chewing ice opposed to just drinking all day.  I've always loved ice water, and room temp water makes me gag, so anything to keep the water in :)

LOL that is one of the things I tell myself too!  Although I'm drinking a ton of water (not counting the ice)....like ~70-100oz in 8 hours at work, needlesss to say I'm peeing like crazy!

  • If you are planning on bf just wait, it gets worse! When I would nurse DS I would feel like I would DIE if I didn't get ice water!

  • I love ice water, but unfortunately it gives me heartburn so I need to drink it room temp.

It only does that to me sometimes and when it does I eat tums....I figure the tums are calcium which is good for both baby and I so why not :)  Congrats on today being your last day of work, I'm totally jealous!

  • Me too! Room temperature is gross to me. I don't know why! lol

  • I have very sensitive teeth so I have been drinking room temperature water for years.  After months of Sensodyne use I feel as though my teeth are starting to not be so bad and I have really been enjoying cold water again.  And I was even chewing some ice a couple weeks ago which I never thought I'd do!

And when I'm out and order a drink with ice I always have to have a straw so it doesn't hurt my teeth... but for some reason I never think to use a straw at home (and I have some in the cabinet).
