BG instructs to use 1/4 cup bleach in the hot wash cycle once a month. Do you do this? Bleach seems so harsh. I am still new to this though. We have been cloth diapering and using BG for one month now. Thanks.
i have only done it to combat yeast. There are bloggers out there that say that using bleach has caused cracks in the PUL, so I don't want to chance it.
I do more often than I would like to. We have enormous problems with stink, and bleach is sometimes the only way to get them clean again. We're hoping to get this figured out soon. I do, however, only bleach the inserts. If we did it only once a month, however, I would not separate.

I did it when we had a yeast issue and it worked well. I don't do it monthly but would if we had stink issues.
"Normal day, let me be aware of the treasured day you are. Let me learn from you, love you, bless you before you depart...let me hold you while I may."
We have done it roughtly monthly, sometimes due to stinkiness, recently due to a nasty yeast rash (yay for thrush!) and occasionally just to get out some obnixious stains that we weren't getting enough sun to deal with. I do both the inserts and the covers and have been doing this for about 9 months with no problems on my BGs or FBs.
Re: bumGenius and bleach
I don't do it regularly, but I always do it when I get used BG's (or any other cloth diaper, for that matter).
It does work wonders when I have stink issues, but I usually use it just on the inserts, not on the pockets themselves.
