Pain in middle back that wraps around to the front

Hello!

I hope this isn't a stupid question but I am sitting in my office in a lot of pain and didn't want to call the doctor if it was just normal pregnancy pain.  I am having waves of pain that start in the middle of my back, kind of close to the bottom part of my ribs.  The pain will start in the back and then move to the front at the same level of my stomach.  It isn't low at all.  It is coming and going and just wanted to see if anyone else has experienced this and what it could be.  I do not want to call the doctor if this is normal and figure that since it is higher up and not lower towards my pelvis that it isn't contractions.  Just wondering if anyone has had this before.  Thanks!!

Sounds like back labor- have you tried timing them?

I will start, I thought that it could not be because it was so higher up the middle of my back and is not going lower.  I will see.  Thanks!!

Does your belly get really tight when this happens?

Drink water and start timing them.

The top part seems to, but the top part of my belly seems to get tight all the time.  I will keep drinking water and timing, hopefully they go away, only 35 weeks today..

Definitely time. It sounds like back labor. My Dr. also said you don't have to feel them all over or in one certain spot. I was having upper back/rib area pain and she wanted to make sure they weren't contractions. She said they can be higher and your uterus squeezing down (her description was like a tube of toothpaste).

Thanks ladies!  I called and they scheduled me for 2:00pm to do a check for a bladder infection and an exam to make sure nothing is really going on.  It is coming and going about every 5 minutes but seems to be only on my left side and in the upper part where I think baby is hanging out.  Thanks for the help!!
