Swaddling older babies?

So I've heard that the aden & anais blankets are great, but is it just because they are larger than a typical receiving blanket?  DD2 is breaking out of her Miracle Blanket, but she still needs to be swaddled at night to fall asleep.  I'm trying to figure out what blanket to buy for her.

Re: Swaddling older babies?

  • We ended up buying a couple large Miracle Blankets.  Those worked until they were about 7 months old.

I don't see different sizes of the miracle blanket.  At least not at BRU...

  • Maybe I mentioned the wrong brand, then.  I know we have size larges, though.  I'll look it up, hang on.

ETA:  Here's the right one.  It's a SwaddleMe.

  • Are your kids rolling over? When our guys started rolling back to belly at around 4 months, our pediatrician told us to stop swaddling them. The transition to sleepsacks was actually much easier than we expected.

They aren't rolling yet.  We are going to the pedi today for their 4 month so I'll definitely ask!

  • all 3 of my boys were swaddled at night until 6mo - in the miracle blankets.... Gibby and Griffin were both HUGE babies - and we managed to keep them in the mB's that long.

the trick - take their legs out and just wrap the arms/top part... and make sure you tuck the flaps down more under their butt- not under their back b/c they can arch their backs and then pull their arms out easily. If you master this- you can use the MB's a lot longer.

the A&A blankets are awesome (we have 8 of them and still use them every day)... but we only swaddled lightly with them for naps - they won't hold a tight swaddle for an older baby... at least not mine :)

I used to be Goldie_locks_5 but the new nest is so screwed up that I was forced to start over.

All of this.... only we stopped swaddling closer to 5 months.

My girls were rolling over, but we used sleep positioners.  Also, sleep sack transition was not smooth at all.  We started sleeping them on their belly and they did great.

Thanks for the tip!  I'll try wrapping her legs out.
