Easter Egg Question

My grandmother had us "blow out the yokes" when we were little. All I remember is seeing her put two holes in the eggs and blowing out all the yoke into a bowl. Does anyone know how to do this? This way they can be hidden and displayed and I'm not worried about the eggs going bad. I wanted to do this next week with all the kids but can't figure out how to do it without the egg breaking:) Has anyone tried this? Is it better to hard boil them? Thoughts?

Re: Easter Egg Question

  • We always hard boiled ours.  The ones we hid for hunts were always plastic ones.  Sorry I'm not much help...

  • You can just use a pin to put a hole in the top and the bottom of the egg.  Once you make the pin hole, you can move the pin around to make the hole bigger so it's easier to blow out the insides.  Make sure you stick the pin far enough in and move it around to try and break up the yoke as it makes it easier to blow it out. It's not easy to start but gets easier. After, we always used to try to flush it with water to get it as clean as possible....blow on the egg again to get as much water out when you're done.

Yup - that's what we used to do when we were younger.

But I wouldn't do that now - I'd just boil em.

We did this but always just used the prong of a fork. And then yes rinsed them with water afterwards. They're very fragile though after you do this, so I'm not sure how good they'd be for hiding and keeping for long.
