Infertility

Bad Shot!

This last IM shot I gave DH was really painful! He yelled. =(  I felt so bad! The first 3 I gave him, he said he barely even felt, but not this one. I have no idea what I did differently and I am afraid of hurting him again! I think I went a bit quickly and didn't let the alcohol dry all the way.

I guess he will get his payback though with those PIO shots he will be giving me. =)

Re: Bad Shot!

  • You probably just hit a nerve...literally, LOL :)
  • No experience with this type of shot, but if you did not let the alcohol dry it HURTS!  I had a nurse do that when taking blood, it stung for quite some time.

Ditto...my hubby did this with a sub-q shot, and it stung like a mama-jama, so I'm sure it burned like fire for poor DH.

I am even at a different office now, the same gal takes my blood every time and I remind her to dry the alcohol off.  Then apologize for telling her again and sorry to be "that lady."

  • Wow, yikes! So alcohol drying is the key I guess. Hopefully next time will be better. I wonder how many DHs out there are getting the shots first or at all!! Usually that is just for the girls. I got him ice cream afterwards because I felt so bad.

  • It may be the alcohol, or it may be that you hit a nerve.  There isn't much you can do about hitting a nerve, it happens once in a while.
  • I did that to DH not too long ago. He has a much less tolerance for pain than I do, so I don't think it really hurt that bad. I felt bad for a minute, but got over it pretty quickly when I thought about some of the bad PIO shots he gave me.
