Drool rash

Poor Sarah and her perpetual state of teething has the drool rash from hell. It was starting to get better but yesterday morning she woke up with her chin all cracked and bleeding. I feel horrible for her, that can't feel good.

I've been buttering her up with a combination of lotion (Cetaphil) and Vaseline but it just isn't getting better. She's a thumb sucker so with her hand there all the time it's really hard to keep the area clean and dry. Anyone have a lotion or anything else that you've found works really well?

Re: Drool rash

  • We had some Bactroban that they gave us for a diaper rash that wouldn't go away, and I used that on a spot on her chin, too.  We've also used Aquaphor.

  • Our Pedi recommended a 1% hydrocortisone cream ( I use Aveeno) but DS never had a cracking and bleeding rash.

  • Diaper ointment works well.  I've used Earth Mama Angel Baby for minor rashes and Burt's Bees when it gets really bad.
  • We also just use the Burt Bee's diaper cream as needed.

  • The California Baby Calendula Cream has worked really well for us so far.  Poor baby!

  • Ah this is the worst we had the exact same problem. I would go get him in the morning and he would have blood on his sheets from his cracked chin. So sad. We talked to the pediatrician and he said to do hydrocortisone creme 2x a day morning and right before bed, and Aquaphor all day long. This helped tremendously. once the cracking was over and we got it under control we went to just aquaphor and that seemed to be fine.
  • We used Vaseline. I caked it on her chin. M had it so bad that it was also bleeding. Poor girl Hope it heals quickly

  • W gets it, but not as bad as some of your lo's. Make sure her neck is totally dry before putting on any of the lotions. If not it will just trap the moisture. CJ's BUTTer works for us, or hydrocortozone cream, not ointment, if it was super bad. We go through about 10 bibs a day, and change his shirt immeditly if it gets wet. I'm sorry for your lo. That sounds uncormortable.
