Pre-School and Daycare

*Howleyshell*

I found out that DS will be attending preschool 4 days a week (instead of the 2 we had planned) because they are eliminating his small speech groups. It's no longer legal in CO to segregate the IEP children and they will be mainstreamed and receive speech help in the classroom instead. I thought it was likely coming, but I found out for sure last week from his speech teacher. And because they want ample time for them to get help in the classroom, they request the 4 days a week.

I think he'll do fine and it will probably be good for him to be in class that long. We won't receive our placements until June because they still have to fit the IEP kids into the regular classes. But I was assured they would try to give him his home school, which was my first choice. So I hope it works out!

On a side note, I saw you the other night in your driveway. Turns out I skate with your neighbor, Michelle, and she had us all over for dinner on Monday. I also found out she'll be moving, which is a huge bummer for us.

  • O....M....G!!!

    Small world!

    Why didn't you say "hi"?!?!?!?!

I just saw a moving truck out there with a car tow on the back and wondered.

I assumed marital issues and a split but then they were out there together hooking up the trailer.

    Are they selling the house?

Sad to see them (or just her) go.  They seemed like a cute couple and we were excited that they might end up being the next on our block to have kids.

I love our neighborhood and love that when the weather's warm all the kids play together (while the parents chat and have some adult time).  A cul-de-sac is great for us.  We were trying to figure out what the purple and gold balloons were for.  We were racking our brains for college teams, etc and then noticed it was a lot of younger women without car seats and figured it was something like a book club and they were using the balloons so people could find the house easily.

Cool that you skate with her!  She's adorable but I haven't had much of a chance to get to know her.  I've seen her DH more since he was out of work and around during the day a bit more.

So... sounds like you're cool with the 4 day thing?

But now you have to wait until JUNE to find out what school he's in?

    That's tough.

I'm betting they'll get you your preference.  If they told you that they'd try I'll bet they can get him in.  They're usually pretty good about saying "we just don't know" if they have any hesitations.

I know there are several kids in Dylan's class with IEP's and from what I see they do a tremendous job staffing the specialists to really give them the attention and assistance that they are identified for.  The great news is that ALL of the kids benefit from having the specialists involved in the class.  I see it as a win-win.

Our IF journey: 1 m/c, 1 IVF with only 3 eggs retrieved yielding Dylan and a lost twin, 1 shocker unmedicated BFP resulting in Jace, 3 more unmedicated pregnancies ending in more losses.
Total score: 6 pregnancies, 5 losses, 2 amazing blessings that I'm thankful for every single day.

  • Sorry I didn't say hi, but it looks like you were talking to several other people and I didn't want to interfere. But I should have! Silly me.

Not sure why she chose those color balloons because our skating team colors are blue and black. LOL. I think it must have been the closest she had. It threw me at first.

Her DH actually got a really great job in Chicago and he needs to be out there ASAP. He's been out of work for a long time, so they are thrilled. Plus, she's from MN, so she'll be closer to family. She's staying another month or so to wrap things up at her job, I believe. They were planning to put their house on the market really soon. I LOVE her house and have a good friend looking for something just like that, so I passed on the info to her. How funny would it be if she decided to move there? But yes, we are all bummed Michelle is leaving. She was our team captain this year and always happy and dedicated. Great girl.

Anyhow, yes, I am fine with the 4 days. At first I was a bit annoyed to have it foisted on me, but the more I think about it, I think it will be really good for him. He really seems to thrive in a classroom setting. He's bright and does well in that environment from what I've been told from his limited class experience. It will be tough for us to get out of the house that early each day, though. Ack. He is getting putzier in the morning. But we'll figure it out. And I'm really glad he's been taking these rec classes for the last year, so I shouldn't have to worry about any adjustment issues.

My friend said the same thing about the IEP kids and the integration. So I think it will be great. Honestly, DS is hardly bad enough IMHO to qualify for speech now, but I think once you are in the system, they like to keep you. It's very thorough, which is good. I'm glad he'll continue to get help now. I'm excited!
