Help on third girl name

We have 2 girls already and are expecting #3 beginning of August.  Having a hard time with a name to fit with the other 2, which are Julia Grace and Claire Nicole. We would like to stick with a somewhat feminine, yet not trendy, maybe older, name that goes well with those 2.  So far we have tossed around, but are not set on, Nora, Ella, Lilly, Layla, (middle name will come after we pick a first).  Last name is 2 syllables that ends in -on but sounds like -in when pronounced.  Any ideas?

  • I think Lily and Ella are way too popular......

I love Nora! Layla ounds cheap to me and not classic like your other names.

    How about:

Molly (love it with Julia and Claire)

    Maggie

    Lydia

    Sarah

    Amelia

    Kate

    Emily

    Amy

    Meredith

    Helen

    Tess

  • Julia and Claire could sound good with a lot of names since they are classic ones, but one of my sisters has pointed out that they will not be living under the same roof forever (her 5 girls all have names starting with A or M which she sometimes gets critiqued for having similar names between them) - so if you like a name that doesn't sound like it goes with Julia and Claire or starts with J or C, you could still go with it.

As for my picks I like all of those names. I work at an elemtnary school though and Ella and Lilly are both starting to become more common/trendy names right now (and I know of several people who are using those names or have used them recently) so if you don't want them to be "trendy" I wouldn't go with either of those. I also know of about a lot of people who have named their babies Nora in the past year including several relatives and many who have thought about that name or want to use that name so that is starting to become trendy too. Layla I really like and I think that one is not as common as the others.

Other names I came up with that fit with your criteria:

Abby/Abigail, Amy, Natalie, Jade or Jane, Candace, Lacey, Sheena, Laurel/Laura, Rebecca, Evelyn, Adreanne or Andrea, Liv or Olivia or Otillia

You'll find the right name when you know! Good luck and let us know what you decide!

  • Love Julia and Claire!  Sib names that I love with them are

    Tess

    Helena

    Kate

    Molly

    Megan

    Erin/Aerin

  • Nora or Lilly out of the ones you listed.

I also love the suggestions Cora and Kate.

  • I just wanted to say that you have great taste! My DD is Julia Christine and if #2 is a girl she will be Claire Nicole.  I actually just posted our decision for #2 earlier this week.   Our runner up name was Andrea if that helps.  I also love classic names.  This may seem silly but my one and only reservation with using Claire is that its only 1 syllable vs the 3 of Julia.  Has that ever even crossed your mind or has it been an issue with you too?   Congrats on #3!

    It's fitting for a "buckeyegirl" :)

  • I find it so funny you menitoned Scarlett - it's kind of a running joke in our family and my nickname actually - it's a lovely name and I actually might consider it!  Here is the story behind it... my maiden name is Gray and we are from Ohio and my family is crazy about the Ohio State Buckeyes (hence my tag name) so for the longest time my dad told my mom if he ever had a girl he wanted to name her "Scarlet Anne Gray", which are the Buckeyes colors (Scarlet and Gray).  My mom didn't go for it and finally won out so I am Kelley Anne instead but my dad has always called me Scarlet Anne anyway!  I do have two brothers who carry the Gray name and are trying to get their wives to name a baby girl Scarlet but so far to no avail either... Congrats on using the name if you have a girl - I really do love it! :-)

  • Oh yes believe me the syllable thing was an issue in my mind for a long time!  However I haven't had any issues with it at all!  The hardest part for me was chosing a middle name with a such a "hard" 1 syllable first name and Nicole just fit (as you know!).  I am also a mom that calls my kids by their first and middle names when they are not listening so i ahve have called it many times and still love it! :-)

OMG!!!  Gray is my married name.  My husband is from Columbus, OH.  Incidentally, my name is Kelly Ann!!!!  If we have a girl, Scarlett Ann Gray :)

  • Wow, small world - we are from Cleveland but still are Buckeyes fans nonetheless!  I cannot believe you are having a Scarlett Ann - good for you!  I will tell my dad - he will be so pleased there is one in this world!  You should somehow get the word out and be on the Columbus news (or at least OSU news!) when she is born!  Not too often a little Buckeye girl is born and can have that cool of a name! :-)  When are you due?
    BabyFruit Ticker
  • Sorry, I just saw your last response.  We are due August 8th.  We opted not to find out the sex so I'm not sure if I will get to use the name.  My DH has family in Cleveland also!
