This is probably just a fantasy, or far from happening, but I've always really wanted to take a cruise to Alaska. Has anyone ever gone on one and have experiences to share? Bonus if you've taken a lo.

Re: Gone on a cruise to Alaska?
I work for Holland America Line. I went on an Alaskan cruise a couple of years ago. I thought Juneau had the best shopping. If I went back, I would do more shore excursions.
It is good cruise for families in the area, because you do not have to fly. I look at it that it is just part of the Pacific Northwest experience, almost like going to Victoria or Vancouver, BC.
We took one just before we started trying for a baby. Alaska was hubby's choice, not mine, I wanted someplace tropical. He's super into the outdoors and nature so I let him pick the destination and figured next time I get to pick. We actually had a really good time. We went on Norwegian (really nice, they do the free style dining and you can dine with your own party instead of having to sit with strangers, or you can opt to sit at a table with other cruisers if that's your thing, and you can have your meals whatever time you want instead of set times). We left right out of Seattle which was great!
We really lucked out in that we had STUNNING weather the whole time, sunny and warm every single day. The cruise people kept telling us how lucky we were. That came in especially handy when we went to see the glaciers, we could see them really clearly and we heard the cruise right before us didn't see a thing because of fog and rain. We did some excursions like a walk in a state park, seeing Native American totem poles being made, panning for gold (totally a tourist trap but still really fun) and went to a glacier park and fish hatchery.
It's really beautiful up there, kind of like here but even more pristine and lush. The towns we went to were mostly small and kind of touristy, but still cute. If you're a nature lover you'll probably love it. My husband always says he'd like to go back and explore the towns more, maybe go to a state park and see more wildlife.
