FI great-grandma is Granny, and his grandma is Momo. Both my dad and FIL want to be Grandpa, his mom wants to be Grandma, and my mom wants to be Nana. But we'll see what baby decides.

I'm sure i'm in the minority, but alternative names from grandma really bug me. my husband's mom wanted to be called Memaw and it took me a VERY long time to get used to it.
I had never heard of anyone calling their grandparents anything goofy until I moved to south...it's so foreign to me!
That's funny because I'm the opposite. I'm from the South, but I lived in MN for several years as a child, and my step grandma and step great grandma were Grandma last initial and Great-Grandma last name. It seems so impersonal, coming from a family where everyone has a unique name. My great grandparents were Abi (short for abuela) and Tato, and even the extended family has nicknames- for example, my godmother is Manina (a nn for the spanish word for godmother).
My mother's parents are from Ireland and my grandmother was always 'Granny.' I was in 4th or 5th grade before I realised that this wasn't the name for everyone's grandmother or that it was an Irish thing.
This will be the first grandchild for both my mom and MIL. My mother hates anything that has Grand or Gram in it, so she's decided that she wants to be called Mia (but I see that you have a dog named Mia so that doesnt work!) MIL hasn't decided what she wants to be called yet.
My mom wants to be nana. His mom wants granny. My grandmother was granny until I was born, apparently I refused to call her anything but Nannan? Now everyone calls her that.
My mom hates traditional names for grandmothers. She read MomMom somewhere and wants to be called that too. We like it as well. Her friend is a MiMi and she knows someone else to is a MeMe. (with a short e sound, not a long e) My dad's mom is Granny and my mom's mom is Mother Otts. I invented that one because I was the first grandchild and my grandmother is called Mother by her kids, and my parents called her Grandmother Otts to me, and I guess to shorten it I started saying Mother Otts. But we don't want to use that for another grandmother because that name is special for her. My mom also dislikes Grandma, Grandmother, Mawmaw, MeMaw, Nanny, Nana, etc. We are from the South as well and we know a lot of MeMaws and MawMaws and such. My mom says they make her feel old.
My dad is no longer with us, but if he was he'd be a Dada. (short a sound) because that's what his dad and granddad were called. Its a tradition for us.
Not entirely sure what my ILs want to be called. I expect that my child will probably make up a name since it will be the first grandchild or one of them will tell us at some point. I thought I read something on her Facebook about her wanting to be called something like KayKay (her name has a K in it) or KiiKii or something. I don't remember. I think grandmothers get more into what they'll be called than grandfathers do. My mom's dad is Grandaddy so I dunno and my dad's dad is Dada. Probably my FIL will end up with Grandaddy too or something along those lines. We aren't going to reuse Dada outside my side of the family since its what my dad wanted to be called.

My mom is Grandy (which I think is dumb, but my niece dubbed her that) and my dad is Dzia Dzia (pronounced Ja-Ja...it's Polish).
No idea what my IL's want. Whatever is fine with me.
