My 5.5 year old DD has stinky underarms. Help!

I put a call in to the pedi this morning and am waiting to hear back from her office. I noticed last week that DD1 has smelly underarms. I can only smell it if I stick my nose up close to her underarm- TMI sorry. It's not an overall body odor, just in that one spot. It goes away after she bathes and stays away for a little while. I was looking under her arm this morning because she had a bug bite that was hurting her. As I was inspecting the bite, I could swear I saw one tiny little hair in her arm pit. She wouldn't hold still to let me really look, though. I'm freaking out! I didn't get my period until I was 15, and everything I've read on google (bad, I know) hints at early puberty. She's only 5! FWIW, she's had mostly organic/hormone free milk until this year when she started pre-k. I know she gets regular milk at pre-k, but I can't believe that would cause this. Have any of you experienced this with your children?

  • I haven;t but my neighbor says this is happening with her kids. Whats kind of soap are you using? Something antimicrobial like Dial will help with smell better than other soaps.
  • what about chicken? chicken can also lead to early development, I guess- loads of hormones. some kids eat tons of chicken.

  • Thanks for the replies. We do buy organic meats. I've tried so hard to keep her diet hormone free and organic where it counts most- meats, dairy and the fruits and veggies most at risk.

I will try a different soap. She still uses the liquid baby soap just because that's what I use on my 2 year old. I'm still waiting to hear back from the pedi.

  • :(  I'd be worried, too. Hopeyou get something figuredout.

  • I had a friend who had precocious puberty growing up and she was put on medication until she got to be the right age.  I would definitely call/have it checked out.
