My H and I are looking for a new home, and he came across a home that seems to be perfect (for him). I do like it, but there are a few things I wish were different. One of them being that it has a pool. I am not sure how I feel about that. Thoughts?

Re: Would you buy a house with a pool?
We have one, inground. (I don't know if that matters)
I honestly don't know much about it as far as cost, DH grew up with a pool so he sortof takes care of all of it.
People assume it's alot of work, and it is some yes, but not crazy.
He vacuums the pool 1-2 a week and adds chemicals 1-2 a week, which takes just a few minutes.
We spend about $200.00 on chemicals for the entire season, and we pay to have the pool opened and closed ($200 each) But this can be done by the pool owner.
We love having a pool, it's a great place for the boys (with supervision of course) and we have lots of friends over in the summer. Worth it for us!

Never. I'm admittedly not a huge pool person, though.
Plus, when I was growing up a two-year-old neighbor got their back door open and fell into their pool. His four-ish-year-old sister watched the whole thing. I don't know if she just froze in the situation or if they hadn't taught her pool safety, but she did not get the parents. The boy was airlifted to the hospital and very, very lucky to not suffer any permanent damage. I think I decided that day that I will never own a pool.
We've got a pool. I think here in AZ it's a little different because a pool is about the only thing that makes the summer bearable.
It's definitely a pain in the butt sometimes, but we use it almost every day in the summer. I love it and I'm happy to have it. It wasn't a make or break point for me either way when we were househunting.
Ours is separate from the back yard, which is walled in. It has it's own childproof fence around it.
Good luck!
I'll give my Real Estate two sense as well, for resale you'll find- just like the opinions on here- that some people want a pool, some don't care either way,and some definitely don't. So it does limit your buyer pool (pun intended) at least some. I always tell my clients that you buy a house with a pool or put a pool in to enjoy it, but not for value becuase you won't be getting any monetary value out of it for resale I find.
Is the pool heated? Personally in our area I think I'd want it heated so that I would get more use out of it, of course the cost would be way higher but still...

Yes, we looked at a couple of houses with pools and it wasn't the pool that was the issue, it was other things with the house, or the fact that the entire backyard aside from the pool was concrete. DH had a pool growing up. My aunt who lived walking distance from us had one too. They are fun.
I had a dream a couple weeks ago that we had a pool (at our current house). Then I woke up and was really disappointed. Our yard is fenced. Our neighbors have an awesome backyard that includes an in-ground pool. I'm always jealous of it.
That said, while I would buy a house with a pool, I'm not sure that I would pay to put one in. No ROI and we have so many other projects that would yield a ROI.
