Stretch marks are actually bleeding?!? PIP

image

I just got out of the shower and looked at my belly and noticed my stretch marks are actually starting to bleed!  Has anyone had anythig like this happen to them? Any advice on slowing this down? If they are already this bad I dont know what will happen to me in June!!  I haven't gained a ton of weight (15 lbs total) so I'm not sure why they are so bad!

  • Have you been putting on lotion daily?  Your skin is probably just really dry from all the stretching. I would use some seriously hydrating lotion...body butter or something.

  • ahh man! That sucks!!! I haven't heard of that before although i'm new to all this. I have been using baby oil in the shower and then lotion when I get out of the shower. I'm at 31 weeks and so far so good. Maybe ask your doc if it's normal? in the meantime I agree with PP - hydrate your skin!

  • It's possible. If your skin is stretched too quickly, then it can thin out to the point of bleeding. Stay hydrated. Use lotion. To help the damage that is already done, and to cut down the chance of infection, use hydrogen peroxide (or some type of antiseptic), and neosporin (or polysporin if you are sensitive to neosporin). You can even use bandaids. Anything to protect the open wounds from getting bacteria.

Weight gain isn't the only factor. Genetics and hormones :( Some women get stretch marks before they even show. It all has to do with how sensitive you are to the hormones, unfortunately. Just make sure you start a post-stretch mark regimen right after baby is born. Once you are done breastfeeding you can use Retin-A (love this stuff).

  • You also might be scratching, whether you realize it or not. Maybe while you are asleep? Scratching through a top might not leave scratch marks, but could open sensitive skin.

I don't think it actually does anything, but it can't hurt to put lotion on 3x a day. I've been using Palmers, but have still gotten these badges of honor.

  • I've had it happen to me this pregnancy, since then I'm just a little better about putting lotion on and it hasn't happened since.

  • my first stretch marks looked like that (baby #2) and they were AWFUL!  I think it had to do with how fast my skin was stretching rather than the amount of weight I gained.  The best thing to do is find a support belt if you can (that will take some of the pressure off the skin), and as PP said, lotion, lotion, lotion!

This. I've heard of it. I got really bad stretch marks, like you, with DS, but they never bled.. I slathered on lotion 2-3x a day just to keep the bell hydrated. I used body butter from The Body Shop. =)

  • I agree with PPs.  You need to seriously lotion.  I use Palmer's daily.  I highly recommend it.
