Need food ideas for 1yo

DD pretty much has no interest in purees anymore. I can trick her into eating some by giving her some finger foods and sneaking puree in every couple of bites. I feel like I'm giving her the same foods over and over, so need some ideas to keep her meals changing. Unfortunately I feed her much earlier than DH and I cook dinner, so dinner isn't usually ready for her to have whatever we're having and we rarely have leftovers (something that I'm working on changing). I like to cook for her in batches and have plenty in the freezer. I don't mind buying ready made stuff either. She pretty much likes everything except for cheerios. She'll eat some, but gives most to the dogs.

I have all the usual cooking sites bookmarked and will be checking there too, but figured I'd survey here -

What are your kiddos' favorite finger foods?

  • Some favorites around here:

    - Pot roast (I'll freeze small portions of it to pull out for his dinner)

    - Dr Praeger's Spinach Bites, Sweet Potato Bites, or Fish Nuggets (found at whole foods)

    - Turkey Meatballs (my go-to recipe - https://pinkparsleycatering.blogspot.com/2010/11/herbed-turkey-meatballs-with-cranberry.html)

  • My little one loves cheese, either string cheese sticks or slices from the deli, and deli meat, too.  Beans are a huge favorite--black, white, chickpeas, kidney beans.  I usually buy the canned and rinse them for her.  Peanut butter on ww bread is one we just tried this week and she's loving that, too. Frozen spinach mixed into pasta with a little butter was a hit.  Scrambled eggs, frozen whole grain waffles, frozen veggies and chik'n (not really chicken) nuggets are also heavy in the rotation.

Whatever we're eating. Seriously. Alex hated purees. He wanted whatever we had, so that's what we started feeding him. We let Meredith experiment with different foods, and she loved it and will now eat almost anything.

Alex is much more of a carb lover than Meredith is. He loves rice and pasta with various sauces. He loves steel cut oats or regular oatmeal, especially if we add blueberries to it. He'll drink fruit and yogurt smoothies, and he loves to eat yogurt. He's a big fan of cheese. He likes chips and salsa, but he's not as crazy for spicy salsa as Meredith was. He loves potstickers and orange peel beef. He loves apple slices, blueberries, peaches, and pears. He's eaten raw carrots, broccoli and cauliflower, but he prefers his veggies cooked.

Just let your little one try whatever you're eating. It's much easier that way!
