What color should I paint the nursery?

My pregnancy brain is extreme today and I can't seem to make a decision.

What color should I paint our nursery? We are having a boy, but it doesn't need to scream masculinity. I tend to lean towards gender neutral nurseries anyways.

Our crib, glider & dresser are all white. We also have the white expedit shelf from Ikea filled with wicker baskets. We didn't buy a bedding set, we just have white sheets for it.

I have scoured babyroomio and spearmint baby and am stuck between a green or a blue. (Daring - I know.) I would love to hear what shades, hues or tones of these 2 colors you would pick and what accent colors you would use.

Oh - the room has really thick white baseboards & crown moulding and a huge window with white wooden shutter blinds. The carpet is a light neutral brown hue.

  • green!

I love green and yellow for boys rooms.

  • We have a blue in one of our guest rooms that I love.  It's Benjamin Moore Yarmouth Blue.

    Pics I found by googling:

  • If we were having a boy I would have left the room painted a shade darker than sea foam green and brought in white curtains and blinds.  I was also going to use bins from Target to bring in additional color and a pattern (they had swirls on them).

  • I'd go with green. I would have done green and yellow for a boy's nursery because I'm not a big fan of the traditional baby blue for boys.

  • what about navy - with the thick white baseboards, it may be a nice nautical look

  • I like green - and Benjamin Moore has some beautiful greenish-blues.  I'm a big fan of their spruce green.

  • We have ours painted 2 shades of blue - both pretty dark. It looks really good with the white trim and I can't wait to get the white furniture in there because I think it will be a really nice contrast.

  • We were going to use Restoration Hardware's silver sage (top can) but it's too light so I think we will use the sea green (bottom right and background) or something similar instead.

  • I think Navy would look great with all of the white.  If you don't want to go that dark I would go with a deep sage green.  I love sage green and thought about that for LOs room but with our bedding we thought it might be too much.  Plus, the nursery is our middle bedroom, and our room is a khaki green and the office/3rd bedroom is a blue-ish sage green so we needed something a little different.
  • We did our sons' room green with yellow ceiling, it turned out AWESOME! I actually wanted to do baby blue, brown and cream, but our guest room was alerady those colors. I think blue and brown would be pretty with the white bedding. Yay for little boys! :)))

  • We used Restoration Hardware paint for DSs room and it was gorgeous.

Eco-Friendly Interior Latex Paint - Cloud Blue

We're thinking probably going to use it again for LOs room.  It's a beautiful sky blue so it's not "too masculine".

I personally like blue over green, but I think green is pretty too. So it all comes down to personal taste. Your room sounds gorgeous with the window and white trim. Take a pic and show us when you paint the room!

  • We chose Spring Melt from Home Depot's Martha Stewart line.  Her paint is low- or no-VOC and smelled kind of sweet?  The color is a pale greyish green.  It looked really light on the swatch but looks awesome on the walls.

We have an Ikea crib and Ikea bookshelf in there so the white looks nice with the green walls.

Agreed. With the light carpet, and all the white furniture, you can go BOLD instead of a pale pastel.

Our little girls room is going to be a bright aqua/turquoise. I'm just waiting for the custom bedding to get here before we pick a color.

  • Thanks for all the reply's. I definitely have some deciding to do. I tend to lean more toward blue usually. The spare room and the master are both shades of blue, so I'm thinking about mixing it up a bit with the nursery.

I will post pictures after we paint this weekend!

  • Since everything is white, I would do something bright or bold to offset-maybe a navy or a rich orange. Maybe do a navy on the bottom with a small white stripe, maybe 2 inches, horizontal obviously. Then a thick stripe, maybe 6 inches, of a taupe color, then another white stripe then a light blue at the top? That would give the room some interest.

you could also do something with a gray and orange...i really like those two together. Like a deep warm gray wall with orange accents. Maybe get a large white tree wall sticker to go over the gray wall color and accent with orange wall hangings, curtains or bedding.

Another thought would be add black and a clover green color, which would brighten it up, yet keep it sleek. Green wall color with a large black wall sticker and maybe a black and white patterned curtain. Babies like to look at B&W colors in the beginning.
