Recommend your bike trailer

DH got a new bike for Xmas, and DS is finally riding really well so we'd like to get out together as a family.  I'm not a huge fan of the seat that goes on the bike for DD, so we were thinking bike trailers.  Lightweight and small is the preference.  Thanks!

Re: Recommend your bike trailer

  • We have a Burley--it's a double and in their "Lite" line.  We got it a couple years ago.

Burley and Chariot are pretty much the top of the line trailers--but they are pricey.  We figure we'll Craigslist ours and be able to get a decent amount for it when we are finished with it.

Just one thing, it looks like your youngest is about 12 months old?  You might want to look into the age minimum for the trailer.  I thought I recalled 18 months for some, maybe 12 months for others?  Can't remember  The passengers have to have solid neck control with a bike helmet on.

  • We have a CoPilot  (lower end of what bike shops sell - I think it was $150ish) that we bought about 4 yrs ago.  It has a stroller attachement/wheel that we've used occasionally, but the wheel is waaaay out in front.

We also bought in InStep at Target last summer for the twins/myself. It was $80ish, and is lighter.

I think the bigger the wheel, the better, and lighter the trailer, the better. For occasionally riding the InStep would be fine, I'm sure....but if he's a serious rider, I'd spend the money for a better one.

ETA:  both of mine are doubles, FWIW.
