Recommend your bottles/pump

There are so many options out there!  I plan to solely breastfeed, but want to have some bottles and get some sort of pump so I can have my husband help feed.  Also, I'm sure the grandparents will be watching the baby some, so I want them to have bottles of breastmilk as well.  What bottles do you guys recommend?  Also, what pump if I am only pumping once a day or less? Thanks!

Re: Recommend your bottles/pump

  • I wanted to breastfeed exclusivly, but when my supply tanked at 3 months due to a bum thyroid, i went to plan B. We tried Avent, hated them. If you dont screw them on just right, they leak all over. I hated all the pieces for Dr. browns. we loved Born free glas bottles. Never leaked, easy to clean, super soft nipple. These were good when we had tummy issues. When she got older, BRU pulled Born free from the shelves, adding Tommy tippy. We wanted something plastic since she was holding/throwing her bottles so we went with these. By far my favorite bottle. Not a huge fan of Playtex drop ins. We had a few on hand for day trips and traveling, since i could rince the top adn toss the liner, but i always had an issue with getting the right amount of water. sometimes it was hard getting it right.

  • My daughter is a preemie and still in the NICU, so I have been EPing so far.  I love my Medlea Pump in Style Advanced.  As for bottles, I have the First Years Breastflow bottles.  They are recommended for helping with nipple confusion.

  • Are you returning to work or staying at home?  If you're returning to work, you definitely need a double electric pump.  I love my Medela Pump in Style Advance.  If you have that pump, you can just use the Medela bottles (assuming, of course, that your LO will take them) since they come with nipples.

For other bottles, I highly recommend the BreastFlow ones.  They were the only kind my BF-loving DS would even tolerate.

  • I had a problem with the Medela Pump In Style not being heavy duty enough for me last time (pumping took FOREVER) so I'm going all out- Ameda Elite this time. My favorite bottles are Born Free, but I also like Green Sprout and ThinkBaby, which are much cheaper if you don't have a colic or gas problem. Born Free are awesome, but at least $7 ea, even on sale. Also, the core pieces (it's a five piece system) get lost easily and are not sold separately. The bottle will leak without it, so sometimes it's $7 down the drain- literally.
  • We are using the Medela Freestyle... I like that you can remove it from the bag it comes with.  We are also going to use Tommee Tippee bottles... our lactation specialist recommended them because they are deigned more like a real breast.
