Stroller frustration...... Desperate...!!!

Hopefully someone can help me with this.  I've been looking for an all-terrain stroller with a reversible seat that does not have cheap plastic tires.  I registered for and received the City Mini, but after using it twice and it almost tipping over twice, I realized it wasn't the stroller for my needs and returned it to Buy Buy Baby (who was awesome to deal with!). I was considering the Bumbleride Indie or Baby Jogger Elite, but am set on the reversible seat, which these do not offer.  At this point, I'm convinced my dream stroller doesn't exist.  Price is also not really an object at this point since I'm in desperation mode.  Any help with this would be AWESOME!

ps- I did see the Kolcraft Countour, but the tires look cheap. I also came across the Dreamer Designs Park Avenue, but saw that the company is no longer in business :(

Re: Stroller frustration...... Desperate...!!!

  • Have you looked at the Britax B-Ready?  I'm currently registered for the City Mini, but am thinking of switching to the Britax B-Ready, because it has the reversible seat and an adjustable handle.  I'm curious to see if others on this board comment on that particular stroller though - I haven't gone to "test drive" it yet.

  • Thanks for the feedback.  I checked out the B-Ready when I was returning the City Mini.  It really looks cheap, which surprised me because of the Britax name.  The wheels are plastic too :(  The city mini is a great stroller, but it's basically a glorified umbrella stroller.  If you already have an umbrella stroller, it pretty much the same thing. The Uppababy Vista looks really awesome, but it's a 4wheeler and the sales person told me it's not really "all terrain" although it is classified as one.

  • Have you looked at the uppa baby vista? Not sure if it's considered all terrain. But it can handle most conditions

I don't believe a reversible all-terrain exists.  At least, an all-terrain with large air tires.

The Bumbleride Queen B has air tires, and is reversible, but it isn't for jogging or anything.

ETA: The Bugaboo Cameleon would also work, but is $$$ and I'm not sure what your budget is.

  • Also keep in mind that air filled rubber tires can and will go flat.

  • I checked out the Vista And Cameleon, both appear awesome.  Since they have 4 smaller-sized tires, I wasn't sure if they'd be okay for trails/more rugged terrain.  Although they both are $$$ and I'm willing to spend if I have to, I'm worried that if I made the investment and they ended up not handling well, I'd be kind of screwed...

    thanks!

I have the Britax, and it definitely doesn't feel nor look cheap to me.

  • We love our bugaboo cham, but i do wish it had better air tires in the front. Our friends use theres in the mountains, we just havent yet. So im unsure how it handles.  Just FYI, i love the Britax b-ready. not cheap from what i see. Maybe you need 2 seperate ones. Like a BOB adn something else.

  • We have a Vista and it handles most terrain pretty well.  Sidewalks, grass, dirt trails, etc and no worries of flat tires.  If you are really going to be taking a stroller off road I agree that you might need something like a BOB.  I don't think I would be taking LO on a really bumpy ride or running trails or whatever until s/he has good head control and is a little more sturdy.  I think most jogging strollers aren't even recommended to be used until 6+ months.  At that point, baby probably wants to face out and see the world.
  • I'll have to look at the B-ready again.  The sales people at BBB really discouraged it, so I listened to them.  The wheels definitely did not appear great to me though. I also couldn't get past the plastic mudflaps.  Thanks for the imput though!

  • Teutonia 250 is a 3 wheeled reversible seat stroller.

Mutsy 4rider is a rugged 4 wheeled reversible seat stroller.

Neither of these strollers have plastic wheels.

Edit:  Looks like the Teutonia 250 and 260 are being discontinued so the stroller frames are on sale at some locations.

  • I agree - this stroller is not cheap in look or feel or use.   I have it and have been very pleased so far.

I think you're really looking for a jogging stroller - not an urban stroller.

  • yes, the plastic mud flaps are beyond annoying, but the tires themsleves are pretty nice. I love that its a  wheel.

If you don't like the two small wheels at the front you can always take them off and get the snow ones for the front. Yes it costs a bit more but you get what you want. But it is designed to go on rocky roads of in snow with just the bit tires.

  • I have the City Mini and a Bugaboo Frog.  I agree about the CM tipping.  It is usually pretty fine for neighborhood walks and even on grass and dirt, but I always have to be on guard especially going over curbs and stuff since it has started to tip a few times.  I do love the portability of it and ease of steer and now keep it in my car for errands and shopping only.  I use the Frog for neighborhood walks and trips to parks.  I am not a runner and I do not do major hiking.  It is a really great stroller and amazing how you barely feel bumps and it is so sturdy.  The cons are that I am spoiled with the CM and it sucks to fold.  I love that son can face me.  Many of my friends that are runners and go hiking a lot swear by the BOB Revolution.  I am not sure if baby can face you though.

  • I'm checking out the Musty 4Rider and the Tutonia 250 (which does appear to be discontinued).  I'm just wondering if parts would still be available if the stroller itself is no longer being made.  The Musty looks intersting, although it is a 4 wheeler. I hear so many good things about the BOB, I'm not a jogger though- just want to stroll over some rougher areas/trials.

  • Have you thought about a baby carrier?  While pregnant I thought I wanted an all terrain, super expensive stroller.  But once the baby got here, I realized that it is whole lot easier to wear the baby in an Ergo or Beco (or other carrier), particularly for hiking/rough terrain.

The teutonia is a modular system, so the the seat and bassinet works with their other stroller frames, 150, 350, 450 etc.  I would imagine that you would still be able to get parts for it.

  • it sounds like you are describing the orbitz stroller - my sister has it and it sounds like it has all that. however i'd warn you that consumer reports has failed it as an infant carrier car seat the past 2 years (failed their safety test), not sure if that matters to you.
  • We got the Baby Jogger City Select and DH put the seat on backwards, so LO is facing me. Baby seems to like it. It has 4 wheels and feels all terrain-like. I love my BOB, but needed the Select for the double tandem feature. I like the way that the CS takes to going over curbs, as it is a little easier to do than the BOB with 3 wheels. But I am still in love with the BOB and plan to get a duallie eventually.

  • Is this a new problem with the City Mini? I'm on my third one, which I haven't even taken out of the box yet. This one is a double, but I also had the original single (which got stolen) and a newer single I bought last year to replace the stolen one. Obviously I'm very happy, and I never noticed a tipping problem- even in El Yunque rainforest :0) Sorry for the side note!

I love my Teutonia 250.  Very sturdy, handles with ease, but is a bit on the heavy side.

ETA:   They say their warranty is one of the best in the business.  They should be able to back up their product, even if it is d/c.

  • I also love my City Select.  Plus, they are never-flat tires.  But where are you looking to take it?  Stone parking lots, grass, dirt, not an issue - but I don't think it's something I would take hiking up a mountain.

  • I'm planning on taking the stroller on gravel and rail/trail type terrain, not along the Appalachian trail or anything crazy like that.  I'm just looking for something that is going to last me so I don't have to get another stroller in a couple years. LO is already 6 months old and will probably be out of the infant carrier soon.  Maybe i'm paraniod, but I really like to be able to see her while we're walking, which is why I'm looking for the reversible seat.  It also appears that all the strollers with the rev seats do not go completely flat (meaning they stay in the 90 degree angle even when reclined).  I'm wondering if this is an inconvenience to anyone...?

The problem I had with the City Mini tipping was when I had the infant car seat attached.  I'm sure without it being so top heavy (without the infant seat attached) the tipping wouldn't be as much as a problem- especially if you have the double.

  • Come to think of it, the CM really only had tipping issues with car seat.  I never felt like son was at risk, but I did have to put both hands of the handles a few times to level it when I was going down hill and trying to make a left turn.  As for Bugaboo (I am sure the Uppa Vista is the same) although seat does not go all the way back that has never been an issue.  When son falls asleep I put him in the recline position and he is back far enough to be comfie.

I have had no trouble with tipping but you have to take curbs straight on. I watched a mom go almost parallel to a curb with her travel system and almost dump the whole thing over. I have no idea why you wouldn't go straight off a drop off.

  • Moussy- Thanks SO MUCH for the info on the teutonia 250.  It looks like it has everything I'm searching for!  Do you know if the seat reclines all the way back (not remaining in a 90 degree angle)?  Also, do all the Teutonia seats fit on all the different chassies?  I have a Graco snugride 30 carseat, it says that the adaptor is compatible with the snugride 32...

Thanks again for the suggestion on the t250!

i also checked out the city mini but then realized a really wanted a reversible seat....so then i checked out the city select, britax, uppababy vista, and bugaboo.

i love the bugaboo cham but it's way out of my price range.

i ended up getting the uppababy vista (btw, i was able to order through bb&b and use the 20% off coupon).

this comparison was pretty helpful: https://stroller411.com/blog/249/uppababy-vista-vs-baby-jogger-city-select-vs-britax-b-ready/

  • I second Teutonia.  I have the t160 and LOVE it.  I think the large rear tires would be suitable for your needs.  The stroller handles so well...even one handed.  We're still using the car seat, but also have the stroller seat.  The seat does have several positions, but I'm not sure if it fully reclines.  I would highly recommend a Teutonia stroller.  It really is high quality and we get so many compliments on it.

  • The Stroller411 website was pretty awesome- thanks so much for suggesting that! I ended up going with the Teutonia t-250, so THANKS so much for those who reccomended it. After doing SO much research, I think that's the stroller that fits all our needs (im keeping my fingers crossed). It is a discontinued model, so I was able to find it marked down on a few websites.  I ended up getting it from kids n cribs, they were very helpful over the phone. Letsgostrolling.com was also a wonderful resource.  I called the 1800 consultation line and the woman there was very helpful to me as well.  So thanks again for everyone who helped us out with this- At this point I could probably write a book about strollers :)
