Repost from breastfeeding board.
Hi, This question are for those who use these Avent bottles. First thing, do you like the bottles?
I currently am breastfeeding my 2month old and would like to try Avent bottles with my expressed milk when I am away from DS. I have some Dr. Brown bottles that DS uses but would like to try a different system that has less parts to wash.
A friend gave me a set of
Avent bottles that she hardly used but stored away for over a year maybe
two. How can I tell if these are the newer Avent bottles which are BPA
free? I asked her but she has no clue. All these bottles dont have the extra ring in them. There are a couple that are
honey colored and I know that those are BPA free but the others are clear
plastic. Some of the bottles have "Naturally" under the Avent logo some
don't. Another thing is that it does not even have the triangle with the number to indicate what type of plastic it is as well.
Re: Avent Bottles
Thanks for the response. So do you prefer the ones with the rings or without?
I just wanted to give them a try first. I inherited 2- 4oz and 2-9oz honey colored (BPA-Free) and 4- 4oz /4-9oz clear plastic ones (BPA???) and a ton of size 1, 2 and 4 nipples. I figure it's a nice amount of bottles to have. I would be spending over $50 for a set like this. I was also given one 5oz BornFree bottle, which I would like to try as well. But these bottles seem to be one of the most expensive ones on the market and has extra pieces as well.
So far I have been using the 4oz honey colored Avent bottle and kept nipple wet when inserting and screwing on (per directions). Did this for 2 feedings, no leak so far. As soon as I encounter a leak...it will be tossed. With my low supply BM is to precious to waste.
I'm a little late to the party here, but I'll comment. I have used Avent products wih two kids, and LOVE them. Some people have complained about leaks, but I never had a problem. My youngest is 4, and toward the end of his bottle useage, they were starting to sell the BPA free. If they are just 2 - 3 year old, I think you should be ok.
I've never used the honey colored ones. i have read reviews of them leaking, but I don't know. I have bought more Avent bottles for this baby, and they are kind of cloudy. The box has a blue label, whereas the honey colored bottles box has a yellow or gold label. Calling customer service may be a good idea as a backup.
I'm not sure if you are using a breast pump, but if you are, I highly recommend the Avent. I used the manual with two kids and it was wonderful. It was very easy to use, and I was always able to produce a lot of milk. If I end up needing an electric, I will go with this brand.
Good Luck!
Thanks for your very helpful response. I don't think these that I have are cloudy, just clear. I guess they will have to go to the trash. But I'll keep the rings and caps.
I have a Medela Freestyle pump but would like to have a manual one as well. I may think about getting the Avent manual pump. is it tiring to pump? have you used a electric one before?and how does it compare? is it quite efficient? TIA
Avent Nuatrally- old bottles and have BPA ( Before they were bought by Phillips)
Just say Avent (and Phillips) clear- newer, but probably have BPA
Avent honey colored- BPA Free
Avent with rings and feel softer- BPA free
