Cloth Diapering

talk to me about poop...

My LOs have been EBF since the beginning, so we've just tossed all dipes into the bin and then the washer.  We'll be adding cereal soon, so I am curious how to handle poopy dipes once we start adding food.  I know we need to do something with the dipes first, but don't know what my options are.  We use BG 4.0s and prefolds right now.

So, what are my options for dealing with poopy dipes?  Do I need a sprayer?  Any other options?

TIA!

Re: talk to me about poop...

  • Once your babies starts solids, you need to dump the poop into the toilet before you wash.  In the beginning, the poop doesn't just fall off into the toilet. You can scrape the diaper, dunk the diaper into the toilet, use a disposable liner, or use a diaper sprayer.

  • I have always just swished and had no problems.  DS ended up being FF after awhile, so he had some seriously nasty poops.  Believe it or not, if you just hold your dipe inside out by the wings the poop almost peels right off into the water when you give it a really good swish.  You can always use a plastic knife or a sprayer if you have issues but I have yet to need either and DS is 14 months.

  • We will be starting cereal soon so I just went ahead and ordered liners as I do not know how well I'll handle the poop. I will try swishing though to see if it bothers me.
